1. Club career
Mounié's club career began in the youth ranks of Montpellier, progressing through their system before making his senior debut and subsequently playing for various clubs in France, England, and Germany.
1.1. Youth and early career
Steve Mounié joined the youth academy of Montpellier in France in 2009. He was promoted to the club's B team during the 2012-13 season, marking his professional debut. His first team debut for Montpellier occurred on 28 October 2014 in a 2014-15 Coupe de la Ligue round of 32 home match against AC Ajaccio. He entered the match as a substitute for Jean Deza in the 86th minute, which Montpellier ultimately lost 1-0.
1.2. Montpellier
After his initial appearances, Mounié was loaned to Nîmes Olympique of Ligue 2 on 31 August 2015, for the remainder of the 2015-16 season. During his time at Nîmes, he proved to be a prolific scorer, netting 11 goals in 33 competitive matches, all of which were scored in the league campaign, making him the club's top scorer for that season.

Upon his return to Montpellier, Mounié extended his contract with the club by two years, securing his stay until 30 June 2019. He continued to show strong form, and on 11 March 2017, he scored his fifth consecutive Ligue 1 goal in a match against Nantes, though Montpellier suffered a 3-2 home loss. This goal marked his 13th league goal of the season.
1.3. Huddersfield Town
On 5 July 2017, Mounié transferred to newly promoted Premier League club Huddersfield Town, signing a four-year contract. The transfer fee was a club record, valued at approximately 13.00 M EUR (11.50 M GBP), with additional add-ons. This fee surpassed Huddersfield's previous record, which was 8.00 M GBP paid for Aaron Mooy from Manchester City just a week prior.
Mounié made an immediate impact for Huddersfield Town, making his competitive debut on 12 August 2017 in the club's first Premier League match. He scored two goals in a 3-0 away win against Crystal Palace. His strong performances continued into the season; on 11 February 2018, he scored a goal, assisted Mooy, and forced an own goal in a comprehensive 4-1 home victory over AFC Bournemouth. In his debut season with Huddersfield, he recorded 7 goals in 26 appearances, significantly contributing to the club's survival in the top league.
1.4. Brest
On 9 September 2020, Mounié returned to Ligue 1 in France, signing a four-year contract with Brest. He quickly established himself as a vital part of the team's offense during his tenure at the club.
1.5. FC Augsburg
On 5 July 2024, Steve Mounié made a move to Germany, joining Bundesliga side FC Augsburg on a three-year contract. He has since begun his involvement with the German club.
2. International career
Steve Mounié has been a consistent presence for the Benin national team since his first call-up in 2015. He scored his first international goal on 23 March 2016 in a 2017 Africa Cup Cup of Nations qualification match against South Sudan.
