Veaceslav Gojan

2.1. Early Life and Origin

Veaceslav Gojan was born on May 18, 1983, in Grimăncăuți, which was then part of the Moldavian SSR in the Soviet Union. His village, Grimăncăuți, is located within the Briceni District in northwestern Moldova. He is a member of the Central Sport Club Dinamo in Chişinău. Gojan competes in the bantamweight class, standing 64 in ^{(162 cm)} tall and weighing 123 lb ^{(56 kg)}.

3.1. Olympic Qualification

Gojan made several attempts to qualify for the Olympic Games. His first notable attempt was for the 2004 Summer Olympics; however, he failed to qualify, finishing in third place at the 4th AIBA European 2004 Olympic Qualifying Tournament held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

He successfully secured his spot for the 2008 Summer Olympics by defeating German boxer Rustamhodza Rahimov in the semifinal of a European qualifying tournament. Despite his success in 2008, Gojan's bid for the 2012 Summer Olympics was cut short when he lost his first bout against Pavlo Ishchenko at the 2012 Olympic qualifier, preventing him from advancing further.

3.2. 2008 Beijing Olympics

At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Veaceslav Gojan competed in the bantamweight division, where he achieved a bronze medal. His path to the semifinals involved several challenging bouts:

• On August 12, he faced Khavazhi Khatsigov of Belarus in his first round, winning by a 1-1 score on countback.
• He then advanced to defeat Gu Yu of China with a score of 13-6 on August 15.
• In the quarterfinal bout on August 18, Gojan secured another victory against Akhil Kumar of India with a score of 10-3, which guaranteed him at least a bronze medal.
• His impressive run concluded in the semifinal on August 22, where he was defeated by Enkhbatyn Badar-Uugan of Mongolia with a score of 2-15. This semifinal loss resulted in Gojan earning an Olympic bronze medal, a significant accomplishment for his career and for Moldova.

3.3. European Championships

Veaceslav Gojan has achieved notable success at the European Amateur Boxing Championships. In 2011, he won a gold medal in the bantamweight category at the championships held in Ankara, Turkey. Earlier in his career, in 2002, he earned a silver medal in the light flyweight division at the championships in Perm, Russia.
