1. Early Life and Youth Career
Armindo Tué Na Bangna's formative years in football began in Guinea-Bissau before his move to Portugal.
1.1. Birth and Youth Development
Bruma was born on 24 October 1994, in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau. As a child, he moved to Portugal, where he joined the esteemed academy of Sporting CP in 2004, before his 13th birthday. During his time in Sporting's various youth sides, Bruma showcased significant talent, scoring more than 80 goals.
1.2. Sporting CP
Bruma made his senior debut in the 2012-13 season with Sporting CP's B team in the Segunda Liga. On 6 December 2012, he scored two goals against C.F. União in a match that ended in a 3-2 away loss, where he was also sent off.
At the age of 18, Bruma made his official debut with Sporting CP's main squad on 10 February 2013, playing the first half of a 0-1 home defeat against C.S. Marítimo. In the subsequent matchday, on 16 February 2013, he scored his first Primeira Liga goal, opening the scoring in a 3-2 away victory against Gil Vicente FC. His tenure at Sporting CP concluded amidst a lengthy and sour contract dispute with the club.
2. Club Career
Bruma's professional club career has seen him play for various teams across Europe, starting in Turkey and moving through Spain, Germany, Netherlands, and Greece, before returning to Portugal.
2.1. Galatasaray
On 3 September 2013, following a prolonged contract dispute with Sporting CP that was ultimately resolved in the club's favour, Bruma signed a five-year deal with Turkish club Galatasaray SK for a transfer fee of approximately 10.00 M EUR. He made his debut ten days later, coming on as a substitute in a 1-1 draw against Antalyaspor on 13 September.
Bruma's maiden UEFA Champions League appearance occurred on 17 September 2013, when he played roughly 30 minutes in a significant 1-6 home loss to Real Madrid during the group stage. He recorded his first assist for Galatasaray in a local derby against Beşiktaş JK, contributing to a 2-1 away victory on 22 September. His first goal for the club came on 18 December, in a 4-0 win against Balıkesirspor in the Turkish Cup.
On 15 January 2014, while playing in a Turkish Cup match against Tokatspor, Bruma sustained a serious knee injury that sidelined him for most of the season. Due to this injury and restrictions on foreign players per team, he was subsequently loaned to fellow Süper Lig side Gaziantepspor, though he did not make any appearances during this loan spell.
2.2. Real Sociedad (loan)
In the 2015 off-season, Bruma was loaned to Spanish club Real Sociedad for a season-long deal. He made his La Liga debut on 22 August, starting and playing for 85 minutes in a 0-0 away draw against Deportivo de La Coruña.
Bruma scored his first competitive goal for the Basque team on 3 December 2015, in a 2-1 loss at UD Las Palmas in the Copa del Rey. His first league goal came 27 days later, on 30 December, when he entered as an early substitute for the injured Imanol Agirretxe and netted the 1-1 equalizer against Real Madrid, although Real Sociedad ultimately lost 3-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
2.3. RB Leipzig
On 4 June 2017, Bruma completed a transfer to German club RB Leipzig for a fee of 12.50 M EUR, with an additional 2.50 M EUR in potential bonuses. He made his Bundesliga debut on 19 August, playing 15 minutes in a 2-0 away loss against FC Schalke 04. Bruma scored his first goal for his new club the following weekend, contributing to a 4-1 home victory against SC Freiburg on 27 August.
During the 2018-19 season, Bruma was sparingly used by manager Ralf Rangnick, making only 14 league appearances. He also faced a two-month period on the sidelines due to injury.
2.4. PSV Eindhoven
On 28 June 2019, Bruma signed a five-year contract with PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands. He made his official debut for PSV on 23 July in a Champions League match against FC Basel, where he also scored his first goal for the club. He repeated this scoring feat in the second leg of the fixture, but PSV was ultimately eliminated from the competition on the away goals rule.
2.5. Olympiacos (loan)
Bruma joined Olympiacos F.C. on a season-long loan on 3 October 2020. The agreement included an option for Olympiacos to make the move permanent for 7.00 M EUR by 30 June of the following year. On 11 April 2021, he scored in a 3-1 victory over Panathinaikos F.C. in the Derby of the eternal enemies, a match that also saw his club secure the league title.
2.6. Fenerbahçe
Bruma began the 2022-23 campaign on loan at Fenerbahçe S.K.. On 20 January 2023, Fenerbahçe exercised their option to buy his rights, making his move permanent on a two-and-a-half-year deal. However, his permanent spell was brief.
2.7. S.C. Braga
Just nine days after his permanent transfer to Fenerbahçe, on 29 January 2023, Bruma was loaned to Portuguese club S.C. Braga until 30 June, without a buy option. He made an impactful debut for Braga, scoring two goals in injury time during a 4-1 home victory over F.C. Famalicão, after coming on as a substitute for Abel Ruiz.
Bruma's performance led to a permanent move to Braga on 14 June 2023, when he signed a four-year contract at the Estádio Municipal de Braga. His contributions continued into the following seasons, with notable performances in both domestic and European competitions.
2.8. S.L. Benfica
On 3 February 2025, Bruma joined Benfica on a contract that extends until June 2028. He scored his first goal for the club in his first start just 12 days later, netting the only goal in an away win against C.D. Santa Clara on 15 February 2025.
3. International Career
Bruma has represented Portugal at various youth levels and made his senior international debut, progressing through the national team ranks.
3.1. Youth National Teams
At the age of 18, Bruma was a key member of the Portugal under-20 side that competed in the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey. He was awarded the Silver Shoe as the tournament's second-highest goal scorer, netting five times in four games before Portugal exited in the round-of-16. Bruma also participated in the 2012 UEFA European Under-19 Championship.
He played his first game for the under-21 national team on 10 October 2013, just 14 days before his 19th birthday. In that match, he scored the second goal from a close-range header in a 3-0 home win against Israel during the qualifiers for the 2015 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. Just two days later, he was called up by the full Portugal national team manager, Paulo Bento, to replace a suspended Cristiano Ronaldo for the final qualifier match against Luxembourg.
3.2. Senior National Team
Bruma earned his first full cap for the Portugal senior national team on 10 November 2017, coming on as a substitute for Gonçalo Guedes for the final 15 minutes of a 3-0 friendly victory over Saudi Arabia in Viseu. He scored his first international goal on 14 October 2018, in another exhibition game, helping Portugal to a 3-1 defeat of Scotland at Hampden Park in Glasgow.
On 10 November 2023, nearly four years after his last appearance, new coach Roberto Martínez called Bruma up for the Euro 2024 qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Iceland. Six days later, on 16 November, he came off the bench for Ronaldo in the 67th minute of a 2-0 win against Liechtenstein. On 21 March 2024, he scored his second international goal in a 5-2 friendly win against Sweden at Estádio D. Afonso Henriques in Guimarães.
4. Personal Life
Bruma's older brother, Mesca, is also a professional footballer and plays as a winger. Like Bruma, Mesca also spent his formative years in youth football at Sporting, and additionally played for the youth academies of Chelsea and Fulham. Bruma himself stands at 68 in (173 cm) tall and weighs 154 lb (70 kg). He is right-footed.
