In 2004, he briefly stepped in as interim head coach for Fluminense's senior team following the departure of Robertinho and later Ricardo Gomes. During this interim period, despite the team being in a precarious second-to-last position in the Brazilian Championship, Gama effectively managed a squad of renowned players including Romário, Edmundo, Ramon, Roger, and Leonardo Moura. Under his guidance, the team's performance significantly improved, leading to his permanent appointment. At Al-Shahaniya, he achieved a significant milestone by leading the club to promotion to the First Division, a feat that had eluded them for 33 years.

Following his success in Qatar, Alexandre Gama was appointed head coach of Buriram United in Thailand. From 2014 to 2016, he enjoyed a period of immense success, winning the national championship twice (2014, 2015) along with six other titles, including the Thai FA Cup in 2015, the Thai League Cup in 2015, and the Kor Royal Cup in 2015 and 2016, as well as the Toyota Premier Cup and Mekong Club Championship in 2015.

Gama successfully steered Muangthong United away from the threat of relegation and guided them to a 5th-place finish in the league.
Alexandre Gama is widely regarded as the most successful coach in the history of Thai football, having won a remarkable 12 titles in 14 finals contested. His achievements were further recognized in 2015 when he was elected the best Thai coach across all sports in the country, an accolade often referred to as the "Oscar of Thai sport," solidifying his status as one of the most prominent figures in Thai football.
2.5. Coaching in South Korea
In December 2021, Alexandre Gama was appointed head coach of Daegu FC in the South Korean K League 1, succeeding Lee Byung-keun. However, his tenure was relatively brief. Due to the team's struggling performance, he resigned from his position on August 14, 2022. Following his departure, Daegu FC's chief coach, Choi Won-kwon, took over as interim manager for the remainder of the season.

Alexandre Gama continues his managerial career in Thai football. Since November 17, 2022, he has been serving as the head coach of Lamphun Warriors in the Thai League 1.
