Moussa Wagué

3.1. KAS Eupen

In November 2016, Wagué joined Belgian club K.A.S. Eupen directly from the Aspire Academy. He made his professional debut for Eupen on 21 January 2017, in a Belgian First Division A match against Genk, which resulted in a 0-1 loss. During his two seasons with Eupen, under the guidance of coach Claude Makélélé, Wagué played a significant role in helping the team maintain its position in the Belgian top division. He accumulated 40 appearances and scored one goal across his tenure with the club in all competitions.

3.2. FC Barcelona

In August 2018, Wagué completed a transfer to Spanish giants Barcelona from Eupen for a fee of 5.00 M EUR. He initially joined Barcelona's reserve team for the 2018-19 season. On 13 January 2019, Wagué scored his first goal for Barcelona B in a 2-0 victory against CD Alcoyano at the Miniestadi. His potential was recognized by Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde, who identified him as one of five promising young players to be given first-team opportunities.

Wagué made his senior team debut on 6 March 2019, playing the full 90 minutes in the Catalan Super Cup against Girona. His official La Liga debut came on 13 April 2019, playing a full match against Huesca, an experience he described as a "dream come true." He continued to feature for the first team, notably impressing in a 0-2 defeat to Celta Vigo on 4 May 2019, and made one more appearance as a second-half substitute in Barcelona's 2-2 draw with Eibar in the La Liga finale.

Ahead of the 2019-20 season, Wagué was officially promoted to the Barcelona first team and was assigned the number 16 shirt. He made his first Champions League start for the club on 10 December 2019, contributing to Barcelona's 2-1 victory over Inter Milan.

3.3. Loan Spells

Wagué's time at Barcelona included two significant loan spells.

On 31 January 2020, Wagué was loaned to French club Nice for the remainder of the 2019-20 season, with an option for Nice to make the transfer permanent for 15.00 M EUR. He debuted for Nice on 2 February 2020, coming on as a second-half substitute in their 2-1 win over Lyon. On 7 March 2020, he provided the winning assist in Nice's 2-1 derby victory against rivals AS Monaco. However, due to the cancellation of the Ligue 1 season as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak in France, Nice ultimately decided not to activate his purchase option, and he returned to Barcelona.

On 21 September 2020, Barcelona confirmed Wagué's loan transfer to Greek side PAOK for the remainder of the season. Unfortunately, on 13 December 2020, during a local derby against Aris Thessaloniki, he sustained a severe knee injury. The injury, which involved damage to his lateral collateral ligament, posterior cruciate ligament, anterior cruciate ligament, and a rupture of the patellar tendon, was career-threatening and sidelined him for an estimated nine months. This type of serious injury not only impacts an athlete's physical well-being but also presents significant mental and emotional challenges, highlighting the critical need for robust support systems, including medical, psychological, and financial assistance, to help players navigate such career setbacks and ensure their long-term welfare. During the 2021-2022 season, Wagué returned to Barcelona but was not registered for either the first team or B team due to focusing on treatment and rehabilitation.

3.4. Subsequent Clubs

After his loan spells, Wagué continued his career with several other clubs.

On 18 July 2022, he joined Croatian club Gorica in the Prva HNL. Barcelona retained a 1% sell-on clause, entitling them to a percentage of any future transfer fee for Wagué. However, his contract with Gorica was mutually terminated on 9 December 2022.

After being without a club for approximately six months, Wagué joined Anorthosis Famagusta of the Cypriot First Division on 28 June 2023. He later moved to Panserraikos in the Super League Greece, where he currently plays.

4.1. Youth National Team

Wagué was an integral part of the Senegal U-20 national team that achieved a commendable fourth-place finish at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup. His participation in such a high-profile youth tournament underscored his burgeoning talent and potential on the international stage.

4.2. Senior National Team

His senior international debut came on 23 March 2017, in a friendly match against Nigeria, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Since then, Wagué has become a regular presence in the Senegal senior national team, consistently earning call-ups and contributing to their international campaigns.

4.3. Major International Tournaments

Wagué played a crucial role in Senegal's campaigns in major international tournaments. In June 2018, he was named in Senegal's 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. During the tournament, on 24 June 2018, he achieved a historic milestone by scoring in Senegal's group stage match against Japan. At just 19 years and 263 days old, he became the youngest African goalscorer in World Cup history. This achievement not only marked a personal triumph but also brought immense pride to Senegal, symbolizing the growing strength and talent of African football on the global stage and inspiring countless young people back home.

He also represented Senegal in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, held in Egypt. Wagué featured in the first two group stage games and the semifinal match as Senegal progressed through the tournament. The team ultimately reached the final, where they finished as runners-up, a significant achievement that was celebrated widely in Senegal for demonstrating the team's resilience and collective spirit. His participation in these high-profile tournaments amplified his national profile and contributed to the collective identity and aspirations of his country.
