1. Club Career
Emilia Brodin's professional football journey began in Sweden, where she established herself as a formidable defensive central midfielder across several prominent Damallsvenskan clubs.
1.1. Early Career
Brodin began her senior career in 2006 with her local team, Bälinge IF, making her debut in the Damallsvenskan at a young age. By October 2007, at just 17 years old, she was offered a four-year contract with the club, with her coach recognizing her potential as a future national team player. She remained with Bälinge for three seasons until their relegation from the Damallsvenskan in 2008.
Following Bälinge's relegation, Brodin opted to join AIK ahead of the 2009 season, turning down an offer from Tyresö FF. She played for AIK until their own relegation in the 2010 Damallsvenskan season. Disappointed by the drop to a lower division, Brodin then transferred to Tyresö FF, explaining her need to continue playing top-flight football to maintain her prospects for the national team.
1.2. Main Club Stints
Brodin's tenure at Tyresö FF spanned from 2011 to 2013. During the 2012 season, she played a key role in Tyresö securing their first-ever Damallsvenskan title, earning her first league winner's medal. With increasing competition for places within the squad, Brodin moved to Piteå IF on a loan deal during the mid-season break of the 2013 season.

In November 2013, Brodin's move to Piteå became permanent, despite interest from other clubs. She remained with Piteå until the end of the 2015 season, contributing significantly to the team's third-place finish in the league. At the beginning of the 2016 season, she transferred to Djurgårdens IF, citing the social benefits of living back in Stockholm.
1.3. Later Career and Interruption
Brodin's time at Djurgårdens IF was significantly impacted by injuries and personal life events. In January 2017, she sustained a serious knee injury, which forced her to miss the entire 2017 Damallsvenskan season and subsequently ruled her out of the UEFA Women's Euro 2017 tournament in the Netherlands. Despite this setback and her Djurgårdens contract expiring that year, she signed a one-year extension in October 2017, with expectations of returning to full fitness in 2018.
However, in March 2018, Brodin announced her pregnancy, which led to a further delay in her football comeback. Although she had already resumed training after her knee injury, her plans to return to the pitch were put on hold.
2. International Career
Emilia Brodin had a distinguished international career, representing Sweden at various youth levels before becoming a key player for the senior national team, participating in major global tournaments.
2.1. Youth National Teams
Brodin was a prominent figure in Sweden's youth international setups. She captained the Swedish Under-19 national team at the 2009 UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship held in Belarus, where Sweden reached the final and finished as runner-up. Her performance at the tournament earned her recognition as one of the Top 10 players by UEFA.com.
She also captained the Swedish Under-20 national team at the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Germany. Brodin played every minute of Sweden's four matches in the tournament, where the team's campaign concluded with a 2-0 defeat against Colombia in the quarter-finals. By June 2013, she had earned 11 caps for Sweden at the Under-23 level.
2.2. Senior National Team
Brodin first trained with the senior national team in February 2010, when she was called up for the Algarve Cup along with Antonia Göransson. Later, in November 2013, she was invited to a national team training camp at Bosön by then-coach Pia Sundhage, signaling her increasing proximity to the senior squad.
Her official debut for the senior Sweden women's national football team came on 8 February 2014, in a 3-0 friendly defeat against France in Amiens. In May 2015, Brodin was named to Sweden's squad for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada, alongside her Piteå teammate Hilda Carlén. During the tournament, she made a 15-minute substitute appearance in a group stage match against the United States. Sweden was later eliminated from the tournament after a 4-1 defeat to Germany in the Round of 16.
On 8 April 2016, Brodin scored her first international goal for the senior national team, contributing to Sweden's 3-0 victory over Slovakia in Poprad during a qualifying match for the 2017 European Championship. Despite undergoing surgery for a meniscus injury in mid-May 2016, Brodin was still selected for Sweden's 18-player squad for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. She described her selection as a "dream come true."
At the Olympics, Brodin made a 15-minute substitute appearance against host nation Brazil in a group stage match, which Sweden lost 5-1. However, she started the semi-final match against the same Brazilian opposition, playing for 104 minutes. Sweden emerged victorious after a 0-0 draw in regular and extra time, winning 4-3 in the penalty shootout to advance to the final. In the final, Sweden lost 2-1 to Germany, securing a silver medal in the tournament.
