1. Overview
Boško Janković (Бошко ЈанковићSerbian; born 1 March 1984) is a Serbian former footballer who primarily played as a winger but also featured as an attacking midfielder or central forward. Known for his attacking style, tendency to take long shots, and proficiency with free kicks, Janković spent his professional club career playing for several European clubs, most notably Red Star Belgrade, RCD Mallorca, Palermo, Genoa, and Hellas Verona. He developed through the youth ranks of Red Star Belgrade, where he also began his senior career, before moving to Spain and later spending significant time in Serie A in Italy. Internationally, he represented Serbia at the U21 level and earned 31 caps for the senior national team, scoring 5 goals before retiring in 2016.

2. Club Career
Boško Janković's professional club career began in Serbia with Red Star Belgrade, progressing through a loan spell, and then saw him move to major European leagues, showcasing his skills in Spain's La Liga and Italy's Serie A.
2.1. Red Star Belgrade
Boško Janković developed through all age groups within the Red Star Belgrade youth setup. At 18 years old, he earned his first senior squad experience during the first half of the 2002-03 season under head coach Zoran Filipović. To gain valuable playing time, Janković was loaned out in January 2003 to lower division club Jedinstvo Ub, alongside teammates Dušan Basta and Aleksandar Luković. Over the next one and a half seasons in Ub, he excelled in an attacking midfield role, scoring 21 league goals in 28 matches. Initially, he trained with Red Star during the week and played for Jedinstvo on Saturdays, but this practice was discontinued by head coach Slavoljub Muslin who required players to train and play full-time with Jedinstvo.
His impressive performances prompted new head coach Ljupko Petrović to bring Janković back to Red Star ahead of the 2004-05 season. He made an immediate impact, scoring a spectacular free-kick goal against PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of a UEFA Champions League third qualifying round match. He continued this form throughout the domestic season, scoring 10 goals in 25 appearances and establishing himself as a key player in Red Star's league-winning roster. During the 2005-06 season, under head coach Walter Zenga, Janković further increased his league scoring output to 12 goals in 26 appearances. He consistently provided effective service from the right wing to Red Star strikers, most notably to Nikola Žigić. At the end of the 2005-06 season, Janković was recognized as the Player of the Year. With growing interest from European clubs, he was sold to RCD Mallorca in August 2006 for 3.00 M EUR, after playing only one match in the 2006-07 season for Red Star.
2.2. Mallorca
Janković transferred to Mallorca in August 2006, beginning his tenure in La Liga, the top Spanish league. His excellent form during the 2006-07 season quickly drew attention from major European clubs like FC Barcelona and Valencia CF. Despite the rumors, Janković initially expressed a desire to remain at Mallorca for another year or two before considering a move to a bigger club. In his debut season with Mallorca, he became the team's top scorer, netting 9 league goals in 28 appearances. Chelsea was also reportedly interested in the young player, with scouts attending the 2007 UEFA European Under-21 Championship Final to observe him. However, on 28 June 2007, Italian Serie A club Palermo announced that they had signed the Serbian midfielder to a five-year contract. The transfer fee paid to Mallorca was reported to be 8.00 M EUR.
2.3. Palermo
Janković joined Palermo in the summer of 2007. He made his scoring debut for the club in a UEFA Cup match. However, his debut season in Sicily was largely considered a disappointment. He struggled to secure consistent playing opportunities in the first half of the season, although his playing time and overall quality of play showed some improvement during the latter half. Despite these challenges, he made 26 appearances and scored 2 goals in his first year at Palermo. After a challenging start, he was loaned to Genoa on 1 September 2008, after making just one league appearance for Palermo in the 2008-09 season.
2.4. Genoa
Boško Janković moved to Genoa on loan from Palermo on 1 September 2008. His time at Genoa proved to be a period of significant development. Under the guidance of coach Gian Piero Gasperini, Janković reportedly matured as a player, reducing his tendency for individualistic play and contributing more effectively to the team. He primarily played as one of the three forwards in Genoa's attacking setup. During the 2008-09 season, his contributions helped Genoa secure a commendable fifth-place finish in Serie A. Following the successful loan spell, Genoa exercised a clause in his contract to make the deal permanent, and his full ownership was announced on 25 June 2009.
Despite becoming a permanent member of the squad, Janković faced an early setback in the 2009-10 season when he sustained an injury after making only three league appearances. He continued to play for Genoa until the summer of 2013, contributing 14 goals in 83 appearances during his five years with the club.
2.5. Hellas Verona
In the summer of 2013, Boško Janković completed his transfer to Verona. He spent three seasons with the club, contributing to their efforts in Serie A. He played until the end of the 2015-16 season. On 30 August 2016, his contract with Hellas Verona was terminated by mutual consent, marking the end of his professional football career.

Janković was a key player for the Serbia U21 national team. He notably participated in the 2007 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. During the tournament, he scored a crucial goal against the Czech Republic in Serbia's second group B match. Serbia ultimately had a strong showing in the tournament, finishing as runners-up. Recognizing his impressive performances throughout the competition, Janković was named in the UEFA Team of the Tournament. Across his appearances for the Serbia U21 team, he earned a total of 24 caps and scored 8 goals.
3.2. Senior National Team
Boško Janković made his debut for the senior Serbia national football team on 15 November 2006 against Norway. He followed this up with another goal against Finland on 2 June 2007, also in a Euro 2008 qualifying match. His third international goal came on 17 October 2007 against Azerbaijan in another Euro 2008 qualifier.
Despite being a regular fixture in the national squad, Janković unfortunately missed out on the 2010 FIFA World Cup due to an injury. He scored his fourth international goal in a friendly match against Germany on 31 May 2008, and his fifth goal in a friendly against Sweden on 1 April 2009. He amassed a total of 31 caps and scored 5 goals for the national team throughout his career. His final international appearance was in a friendly match away against France in May 2012.
