1. Overview
Artur Ashotovich Danielian (Артур Ашотович ДаниелянRussian) is a Russian figure skater who has achieved significant success in both junior and senior international competitions. He is notable as the 2020 European silver medalist, the 2020 Russian national silver medalist, and the 2018 World Junior silver medalist. His career progression saw him rise through the junior ranks to become a prominent figure in men's singles skating on the senior circuit before facing challenges including injuries.
2. Personal Life
Danielian was born on December 17, 2003, in Volgograd, Russia. He is the youngest of three children. Danielian is of Armenian descent. His height is 5.5 ft (1.69 m).
3. Career
Artur Danielian's career in figure skating began in his hometown and progressed through national and international competitions, marked by significant achievements and periods of challenge due to injuries.
3.1. Early Years
Danielian began learning to skate in 2008, following the opening of an ice rink near his home in Volgograd. In 2016, he moved to Moscow to further his training, joining the CSKA Moscow club. During this period, he was coached by Marina Selitskaia and Elena Buianova.
3.2. 2017-2018 Season
In September 2017, Danielian made his debut on the ISU Junior Grand Prix (JGP) series, competing in Zagreb, Croatia, where he finished seventh. In February 2018, he secured a bronze medal at the 2018 Russian Junior Championships. The season culminated in March when Danielian competed at the 2018 World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria. He placed eighth in the short program and second in the free skate, earning him the silver medal overall, behind his teammate Alexey Erokhov.
3.3. 2018-2019 Season
Danielian commenced his 2018-2019 season by participating in the 2018 JGP series. He placed fifth at his first JGP event in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and subsequently finished fourth at his second JGP assignment in Yerevan, Armenia. Following the JGP series, Danielian won a gold medal at the 2018 Tallinn Trophy. Despite finishing fifth at the 2019 Russian Junior Championships, Danielian was still selected to compete at the 2019 World Junior Figure Skating Championships. This opportunity arose because the junior champion, Daniil Samsonov, was not age-eligible for international competition, and the fourth-place finisher, Erokhov, withdrew. At the Junior Worlds, Danielian placed ninth in the short program and fifth in the free skating, securing a fourth-place overall finish with a new personal best score of 220.68 points.
3.4. 2019-2020 Season
The 2019-2020 season marked Danielian's transition and success in both junior and senior competitions. On the Junior Grand Prix circuit, he earned silver medals at both JGP Russia and JGP Croatia, which made him the first alternate for the Junior Grand Prix Final. He made his senior international debut on the Challenger Series at the 2019 CS Golden Spin of Zagreb, where he finished fourth.
Danielian competed at the 2020 Russian Championships at the senior level for the first time. Despite placing thirteenth in the short program, he delivered a clean free program, winning that segment outright. This performance propelled him to the silver medal position overall. His strong showing at the Russian Championships earned him a spot at the 2020 European Figure Skating Championships. At the Europeans, Danielian placed third in the short program, even with a step out on his triple Axel. Although he finished fourth in the free skate, he secured the silver medal overall. Danielian was assigned to compete at the 2020 World Figure Skating Championships in Montreal, but the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
3.5. 2020-2021 Season
The 2020-2021 season was largely impacted by injuries for Danielian. An ankle injury forced him to withdraw from the senior Russian test skates. He was initially scheduled to make his Grand Prix debut at the 2020 Rostelecom Cup but withdrew due to surgical recovery. He subsequently withdrew from the Russian Championships for the same reason, effectively sidelining him for the entire season.
3.6. 2021-2022 Season
Danielian returned to international competition during the 2021-2022 season. He competed at the 2021 Skate America, where he placed tenth. He also finished tenth at the 2021 Internationaux de France. At the 2022 Russian Championships, Danielian finished in thirteenth place.
3.7. 2022-2023 Season
In August 2022, it was announced that Danielian had made a significant coaching change, moving from Elena Buianova to Evgeni Rukavicin. This marked a new phase in his training environment.
