Andrew Nabbout's professional football journey has seen him play for various clubs across different leagues, showcasing his adaptability and skill.
2.1. Melbourne Victory (first stint)
Nabbout signed for Melbourne Victory's Youth Team on 1 October 2012 for the 2012-13 season. His senior debut for Melbourne Victory in an A-League match against Brisbane Roar occurred on 13 October 2012, in a match that ended in a 5-0 defeat. On 10 November 2012, Nabbout entered the game as a substitute in the 66th minute against rivals Sydney FC while his team was 2-0 down. He made a significant impact by scoring a superb goal in the 78th minute and then the winning goal in the 91st minute, helping Melbourne secure a 3-2 victory. A week later, on 17 November 2012, Nabbout made his first ever start in a home game and scored his first home goal against Central Coast Mariners, a match that ended in a 2-2 draw. He subsequently signed a three-year senior contract with the Victory.
On 7 December 2012, Nabbout played his first full 90-minute match for Melbourne against Adelaide, scoring his fourth goal with an assist from Marco Rojas, though Melbourne ultimately lost 2-4. In his debut season (2012-13), Nabbout made a total of 21 appearances for Melbourne, including two in the final series, accumulating 786 minutes of play and scoring four goals.

For the 2013-14 season, Nabbout was granted the number 13 jersey. His second season under new coach Kevin Muscat saw less game time compared to his appearances under Ange Postecoglou. He made 19 appearances for the club, scoring one goal in a 1-1 draw against Newcastle Jets on 10 January 2014, and providing two goal assists in other matches, totaling 462 minutes. A notable moment in the 2014 AFC Champions League was his contribution to securing Melbourne's second goal in a 2-0 victory over champions Guangzhou Evergrande on 15 April 2014.
In the 2014-15 season, Nabbout made his first league match day appearance on the bench against rivals Melbourne City but was not used. His first competitive appearance of the season and debut in cup football was against Perth Glory in the FFA Cup quarter-finals on 29 October 2014. He came on as a substitute for Besart Berisha in the 44th minute, with the game ending in a 4-2 loss after extra time. Melbourne Victory released Nabbout on 23 May 2015.
2.2. Negeri Sembilan FA
In early December 2015, Nabbout signed with Negeri Sembilan FA in the Malaysian Premier League for the 2016 season, reuniting with former National Soccer League winning coach Gary Phillips and several former A-League players. During his time at Negeri Sembilan, Nabbout became the team's top scorer, netting 9 goals in 14 competitive games (12 league appearances with 8 goals and 2 cup appearances with 1 goal). Despite his impressive performance, Nabbout's contract was terminated mid-season as the club sought to bring in new attacking players.
2.3. Newcastle Jets
After a half-season stint with Negeri Sembilan, Nabbout returned to Australia, joining Newcastle Jets on 19 July 2016. He made his Newcastle debut in a 3-1 FFA Cup loss against his former club, Melbourne Victory, where he played the full game.
He had a slow start to the 2016-17 A-League season, not scoring until Round 6. In January, Nabbout was awarded the Professional Footballers Australia Player of the Month and was considered a strong candidate for the Johnny Warren Medal, with discussions about a potential selection for Ange Postecoglou's Australian squad for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. However, after scoring two goals against Melbourne City in a 2-1 win later that month at the C.ex Coffs International Stadium, Nabbout's form, and that of the team, declined. He did not score again that season, and talks of an international debut ceased. In Round 27, the final game of the season, against Sydney FC at the Sydney Football Stadium, Newcastle was in last place on the A-League ladder and needed a win or a draw to avoid the wooden spoon. Nabbout missed a penalty in the 40th minute, and Sydney went on to score two second-half goals, handing the Jets their third wooden spoon in club history. Despite this, at the annual Newcastle Jets Awards Night later that month, Nabbout won the Jets Golden Boot with eight goals and the Ray Baartz Medal.
Two days before the 2017-18 pre-season began, news emerged that UAE Pro-League side Al-Dhafra had approached Newcastle with a substantial transfer offer for Nabbout. However, Newcastle initially refused the offer, stating the amount was not high enough. The following day, Jets CEO Lawrie McKinna clarified that while no formal offer had been received, Al-Dhafra had expressed interest four weeks prior, and the proposed transfer amount of 650.00 K AUD was acceptable. With the transfer talks behind him, Nabbout had his strongest pre-season, scoring 8 goals, including two hat-tricks. He also stated his goal for the season was to achieve double digits in both goals and assists, a feat he had not accomplished previously. By 27 November, after impressing new coach Ernie Merrick with 4 goals (including two braces) and 3 assists in the first 9 rounds, Nabbout signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until the completion of the 2019-20 Season. He finished the season with 10 goals and 7 assists, the best statistics among Australian players at the time. Even after leaving Newcastle Jets and the A-League more than a month earlier, Nabbout won 'Goal of the Year' for his outside-of-the-boot goal against the Western Sydney Wanderers in Round 20 at the annual 2018 A-League Awards Night, the Dolan Warren Awards. He was also selected for the PFA A-League Team of the Season for 2017-18.
2.4. Urawa Red Diamonds
On 5 March 2018, Nabbout departed Newcastle Jets to join Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds for a reported transfer fee of 500.00 K AUD. He made his Urawa debut in Round 5 of the 2018 J1 League season against Jubilo Iwata, coming on as a 70th-minute substitute in a 2-1 loss. Three days later, he made his starting debut and played a full match for Urawa in Round 3 of the J.League Cup.
After former Kashima Antlers and veteran Brazilian coach Oswaldo de Oliveira was appointed as the new head coach of Urawa in April, Nabbout was initially dropped from the matchday squad along with two other foreign players for their match against Consadole Sapporo, which was interim coach Tsuyoshi Otsuki's last match. However, Nabbout was recalled to the matchday squad for Oliveira's debut match as head coach of Urawa, a 1-0 loss against Kashiwa Reysol, though he remained an unused substitute.
In Round 12 against Kawasaki on 2 May 2018, Nabbout made his J1 League starting debut in a 2-0 win for Urawa. In this match, he set up Japan striker Shinzo Koroki for Urawa's second goal, marking his first assist for Urawa across all competitions, before being substituted in the 75th minute. However, during the match, he collided with Kawasaki goalkeeper Jung Sung-ryong, suffering a right shoulder dislocation. The opposing goalkeeper was sent off for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity. The dislocation healed during the FIFA World Cup break, but it recurred during Australia's match against Denmark at the World Cup, forcing him to be sidelined again. He eventually returned to play on 7 October in a match against Vegalta Sendai after a five-month absence. During his tenure with Urawa Red Diamonds, Nabbout scored one goal in 16 appearances in J1 League matches.
2.5. Melbourne Victory (second stint)
In July 2019, after scoring one goal in 16 appearances with Urawa Red Diamonds, Nabbout returned to Australia's A-League, signing a one-year contract with his former club, Melbourne Victory. On 28 January 2020, he scored the only goal in a crucial 1-0 victory over Kashima Antlers in an AFC Champions League qualifying play-off. This win secured Victory's qualification for the 2020 AFC Champions League, where they went on to reach the round of 16. During his second spell with the club, he made 22 league appearances, scoring 8 goals, and 4 continental appearances, scoring 1 goal.
2.6. Melbourne City
On 1 September 2020, it was initially announced that Nabbout would join Perth Glory FC for the upcoming 2020-21 season, signing a two-year contract. However, on 23 September, it was confirmed that he would not be joining Perth due to issues related to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and relocation. The very next day, it was announced that Nabbout had instead joined rivals Melbourne City on a one-year deal.
He has been a consistent contributor for Melbourne City, with his statistics reflecting his ongoing importance to the team. In the 2020-21 season, he made 17 appearances, scoring 3 goals. The following season, 2021-22, saw him make 28 appearances with 5 goals, in addition to 5 appearances and 2 goals in continental competitions. In the 2022-23 season, he played 28 matches and scored 3 goals. As of the 2023-24 season, he has made 10 appearances for the club.
3. International Career
Andrew Nabbout has proudly represented the Australia national football team in various international competitions.
On 27 August 2013, it was confirmed that Lebanon national team coach Giuseppe Giannini had offered Nabbout a place in their national squad, a possibility due to his Lebanese heritage. Nabbout declined the offer, holding out hope that he could secure a spot in the Australian national team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. However, coach Ange Postecoglou did not select him for that World Cup squad.
In March 2018, Nabbout received his first call-up to the Australia squad for friendlies against Norway and Colombia. He made his international debut on 24 March 2018, starting as a striker against Norway. Australia lost the match 4-1, and Nabbout was substituted in the 67th minute for Tomi Juric. Four days later, Nabbout started in Australia's second friendly, a 0-0 draw against Colombia, playing on the left wing. He received praise for his performance before being substituted in the 73rd minute for Robbie Kruse.
Two months later, in May, Nabbout was selected for the preliminary squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. The following week, coach Bert van Marwijk announced a trimmed squad of 26 players, and Nabbout, along with former Newcastle Jets teammate Dimitri Petratos, made the cut.
On 1 June 2018, Nabbout scored his first international goal in Australia's 4-0 victory over the Czech Republic. Nabbout was then selected for Australia's final 23-man squad for the tournament. He made his FIFA World Cup debut against France on 16 June 2018. Nabbout also started against Denmark on 21 June 2018 but was substituted in the 75th minute for Tomi Juric after he dislocated his shoulder. This injury was a recurrence of the one he sustained earlier in Japan. He was also called up for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup. As of January 25, 2019, Nabbout has made 10 appearances for the national team, scoring 2 goals.
