Albin Pelak

Albin Pelak was born on 9 April 1981, in Novi Pazar, Serbia, which was then part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

1.2. Youth and amateur career

Pelak began his youth career at Varteks, where he played from 1991 to 1996. He then joined the youth ranks of FK Sarajevo in 1996, remaining there until 2003. During his time with FK Sarajevo's youth squad, Pelak was recognized as a key part of an exceptionally talented generation of players born in 1981 and 1982, considered one of the most gifted squads in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This group included future professional players such as Alen Škoro, Džemal Berberović, and Damir Mirvić, many of whom went on to have successful careers in Europe. Pelak himself was noted for his leadership qualities, even serving as captain of the Bosnia and Herzegovina U-21 national team.

2.1. Early career at FK Sarajevo

Pelak's professional career began at FK Sarajevo in 1999, where he quickly became one of the club's most popular players. During his initial professional stint from 1999 to 2003, he earned considerable praise from both the press and supporters for his high work rate and strong leadership abilities on the field. He was an integral part of the team, contributing significantly to their performance in the Bosnian Premier League.

2.2. Attempts abroad and returns

Following his successful early years at FK Sarajevo, Pelak sought to further his career abroad. In February 2003, he made a move to Cerezo Osaka in Japan, joining the J1 League. Despite high expectations, his tenure with the Japanese club was brief, lasting only three months until May 2003. It was reported that Pelak received a substantial payment of around 1.00 M EUR for this transfer. However, he struggled with homesickness during his time in Japan and ultimately returned to FK Sarajevo.

Later in 2003, Pelak attempted another move abroad, joining Croatian football giants Dinamo Zagreb. His spell with the club extended into 2004, but he did not make any official appearances during this period. After these unsuccessful attempts to establish himself in foreign leagues, Pelak returned to FK Sarajevo in November 2004, continuing to play for them until 2005.

2.3. Transfer to FK Željezničar and controversy

One of the most controversial events in Albin Pelak's career was his transfer to FK Željezničar Sarajevo in the 2005-06 season. This move sparked significant outrage among fans of FK Sarajevo, as Pelak had previously made an explicit promise to the club's supporters that he would never play for their bitter city rival, Željezničar. Despite this prior commitment, he signed with Željezničar, leading to strong negative reactions from the FK Sarajevo faithful and creating a lasting controversy in local football circles.

2.4. Later club activities and retirement

After his time with FK Željezničar, Pelak continued his career with other clubs. In 2007, he moved to FC Zvezda Irkutsk in the Russian First Division, although his stay there was also brief. He subsequently returned to FK Željezničar, playing for them again from 2007 to 2009. On 4 April 2009, Pelak ended his contract with Željezničar and joined Olimpik, another club in the Bosnian Premier League, where he played until 2010. He ultimately retired from professional football in 2010.
