Teymur Mammadov, whose full name is Teymur Füzuli oğlu MəmmədovTeymur Fuzuli oglu MammadovAzerbaijani, was born on January 11, 1993, in Baku, Azerbaijan. He holds Azerbaijani nationality. Mammadov pursued his education at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Culture and Sport. During his boxing career, he was affiliated with Rabita SC and trained under the guidance of coach Ilham Alimzanov. Mammadov stands at a height of 77 in (196 cm).
2. Boxing Career
Teymur Mammadov's boxing career primarily focused on amateur competitions, where he achieved considerable success across various international tournaments. His journey saw him compete in different weight classes, notably heavyweight and light heavyweight, demonstrating versatility and consistent performance at an elite level.
2.1. Early Career and Major Achievements
Mammadov's early career was marked by rapid ascent and significant victories. In 2011, he competed in the 2011 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Baku, where he secured a silver medal in the heavyweight (201 lb (91 kg)) division. In the final, he was defeated by Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk. The same year, Mammadov also achieved a gold medal at the 2011 European Amateur Boxing Championships held in Ankara, further establishing his presence on the international stage.
2.2. Olympic Participation
Mammadov represented Azerbaijan in two Olympic Games, earning a medal in his first appearance. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, he won a bronze medal in the heavyweight (201 lb (91 kg)) category. His path to the bronze included a victory over Jai Opetaia, but he subsequently lost to Clemente Russo in the semi-final. Notably, his quarter-final match against Siarhei Karneyeu involved a controversial decision that awarded Mammadov the victory.
He later participated in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. During these games, Mammadov reached the quarterfinals before being defeated by Adilbek Niyazymbetov of Kazakhstan, who went on to win the silver medal. Mammadov was also honored with the role of flag bearer for Azerbaijan during the Parade of Nations at the opening ceremony. He succeeded Elnur Mammadli as flag bearer and was later succeeded by Rustam Orujov.

Following his initial Olympic success, Mammadov continued to compete actively in major international tournaments. In 2013, he participated in the European Amateur Boxing Championships in Minsk, where he earned a silver medal. Later that year, at the 2013 AIBA World Boxing Championships in Almaty, he secured another bronze medal, again losing to Clemente Russo.
By 2015, Mammadov transitioned from the heavyweight (201 lb (91 kg)) division to the light heavyweight (179 lb (81 kg)) division. This change proved successful as he won a gold medal at the 2015 European Games held in Baku. His strong performance continued into 2017 when he claimed another gold medal in the heavyweight (201 lb (91 kg)) category at the 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games, also held in Baku. In addition to his competitive career, Teymur Mammadov has also taken on the role of a boxing coach.
