1. Early life and education
Khalfan was born on 21 June 1988 in Mtwara, Tanzania. He began his football journey in his hometown, playing with a youth team known as Score FC. For his education, Khalfan attended Ligula Primary School and later Ocean Secondary School, both located in Mtwara.
2. Career
Nizar Khalfan's professional career saw him play for various clubs in Tanzania and internationally, as well as represent his national team in significant competitions.
2.1. Club career
Khalfan started his professional club career with Mtibwa Sugar FC in Tanzania. He then moved to the Kuwaiti Premier League for the 2007-08 season, joining Al Tadamon. In January 2008, he transferred to the Lebanese club Tadamon Sour, but his stay there was brief as he soon returned to the Tanzanian Premier League to play for Moro United.
On 22 August 2009, Khalfan made a significant move to the Canadian side Vancouver Whitecaps FC. He played nine games for the Whitecaps during their successful 2009 season and subsequently signed a contract extension to continue with the team in 2010. His first goal for the Whitecaps came on 12 June 2010, in a match against the Austin Aztex. On 9 February 2011, he signed a new one-year contract for the 2011 Major League Soccer season.
Khalfan's time with Vancouver concluded when he was waived on 23 November 2011. He was then selected in the MLS Waiver Draft by Philadelphia Union in the United States. However, the Union released him just three months later, prior to the commencement of the 2012 season. He later joined Pamba S.C..
2.2. International career
Khalfan was a prominent member of the Tanzania national football team. He played a crucial role in the team's qualifying campaigns for major international tournaments. He featured in five of Tanzania's qualifying matches for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. During these qualifiers, he scored a goal in the 4-1 victory over Mauritius on 6 September 2008. Additionally, Khalfan scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory against Burkina Faso at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar-es-Salaam on 14 June 2007.
