As captain, he led the team on an expedition to Shanghai, China, which took place between December 1927 and January 1928. During this tour, the team participated in three friendly matches against local Chinese teams.

While still a student at Kwansei Gakuin University, Masao Takada received a call-up to the Japan national football team in May 1925. He was selected to represent Japan at the 7th Far Eastern Championship Games, which were held in Manila, Philippines. He made his international debut for Japan on May 17, 1925, in a match against the Philippines, which Japan lost with a score of 0-4. Just three days later, on May 20, he made his second and final appearance for the national team, playing against the Republic of China. Japan also suffered a defeat in this match, losing 0-2. These two matches in 1925 were his only international appearances for Japan.
