Harri Heliövaara's life outside of tennis includes his family, his professional experiences during his break from the sport, and his active participation in the tennis community's administrative bodies. Heliövaara was born on 4 June 1989, in Helsinki, Finland, where he also resides. His coach since 2018 has been Boris Chernov. In 2024, Heliövaara was a member of the ATP Player Advisory Council, demonstrating his involvement in the sport's governance.
During his absence from the professional tour between 2014 and 2017, Heliövaara gained experience outside of tennis. He completed an internship at McKinsey & Company and held an office position at Helsinki Airport. It was at Helsinki Airport that he met his wife, Sini, who worked there full-time. The couple has two children, a daughter and a son. Heliövaara continues to engage with local tennis through the SATA-Tennis Club in Helsinki, where he practices and competes as part of their competitive team against other Finnish tennis clubs.
1.2. Career start and comeback
Heliövaara officially turned professional in 2009. However, he announced his retirement from professional tennis in 2013. After a four-year hiatus, he decided to return to the sport, making his comeback in 2017, which proved to be a significant turning point in his career.
2. Career achievements
Harri Heliövaara has achieved significant milestones throughout his tennis career, from his junior successes to his triumphs on the ATP Tour and in Grand Slam events.
2.1. Junior career
During his junior career, Heliövaara achieved a notable success by winning the boys' doubles title at the 2007 Australian Open. He partnered with Graeme Dyce to claim the championship, defeating Stephen Donald and Rupesh Roy in the final with a score of 6-2, 6-7(4-7), 6-3.
2.2. Early professional career (ATP Challenger and ITF Futures)
In the initial phase of his professional career, Harri Heliövaara competed extensively in ATP Challenger and ITF Futures tournaments, securing numerous titles in both singles and doubles. He won eight singles titles on the ITF Futures circuit. His first singles Futures title came in April 2010 at the Korea F1 in Seogwipo, where he defeated Teodor-Dacian Crăciun 6-4, 6-2. In doubles, Heliövaara claimed 20 ITF Futures titles and 16 ATP Challenger titles. His first ITF Futures doubles title was won in April 2008 at the Great Britain F6 in Exmouth with Henri Kontinen. 2.3. ATP Tour success (2021-present)
Harri Heliövaara achieved significant breakthroughs on the ATP Tour starting in 2021, consistently advancing his ranking and securing major titles.
2.3.1. 2021: First ATP Tour titles
The year 2021 marked Heliövaara's initial success on the ATP Tour. In March, partnering with Lloyd Glasspool, he won his first ATP Tour title at the 2021 Open 13 in France, defeating the Dutch pair Sander Arends and David Pel in the final. In October of the same year, he secured his second ATP Tour title at the 2021 Kremlin Cup in Russia, this time alongside Dutch player Matwé Middelkoop, overcoming Tomislav Brkić and Nikola Ćaćić.
2.3.2. 2022: Major quarter-finals and ATP Finals semi-final
In 2022, Heliövaara and Glasspool reached two more ATP 250 finals at the 2022 Open Sud de France in Lyon and the 2022 Dallas Open. These performances helped Heliövaara break into the top 50 in doubles on 28 February 2022. In May, making their debut as alternates at the 2022 Italian Open (tennis), they advanced to their first Masters 1000 quarterfinal, notably defeating world No. 1 and No. 2 players Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram in the first round.
At the 2022 French Open, Heliövaara reached a Grand Slam quarterfinal for the first time in his career with Glasspool. This achievement propelled him into the top 40, reaching world No. 39 on 6 June 2022. The pair continued their strong season by reaching their first final on grass at the 2022 Queen's Club Championships and advanced to the third round at Wimbledon for the second consecutive year.

As the 11th seeds at the US Open, they made it to their second Grand Slam quarterfinal, and first at this major, defeating the 8th-seeded pair of Kyrgios and Kokkinakis. They reached their sixth final of the season at the 2022 Moselle Open. By 26 September 2022, Heliövaara entered the top 15 in the doubles rankings at world No. 14. On 4 November, Heliövaara and Glasspool qualified for their first 2022 ATP Finals after reaching their first Masters 1000 semifinal at the 2022 Rolex Paris Masters, with Heliövaara moving to No. 12 in the rankings. At the ATP Finals, they advanced to the semifinals by defeating Marcelo Arévalo and Jean-Julien Rojer, and Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos, both in straight sets.
2.3.3. 2023: US Open mixed doubles title and Top 10 debut


Heliövaara continued his success in 2023, winning his fourth title with Glasspool at the 2023 Adelaide International 1. This win allowed him to debut in the top 10 of the doubles rankings, reaching world No. 9 on 9 January 2023. He also reached his eleventh ATP Tour final in Dubai with Glasspool.
A significant highlight of 2023 was his triumph in mixed doubles at the US Open. He partnered with Anna Danilina, whom he met at the tournament's sign-in line, and together they unexpectedly won the entire event at Flushing Meadows, defeating Jessica Pegula and Austin Krajicek in the final.
2.3.4. 2024: Wimbledon men's doubles champion and ATP Finals semi-final
The 2024 season was marked by major achievements for Heliövaara. In April, he won his fifth ATP Tour title with his new partner Henry Patten at the Grand Prix Hassan II in Morocco, defeating Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler. They also secured the Madrid Challenger title. In May, Heliövaara and Patten won the Turin Challenger by defeating Andreas Mies and Neal Skupski. They reached the final of the Lyon Open, where they claimed their second ATP Tour title as a team, and sixth for Heliövaara, against Yuki Bhambri and Albano Olivetti.
Heliövaara and Patten reached the men's doubles final at Wimbledon. Their path to the final included victories over Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli, Pedro Martínez and Jaume Munar, Marcelo Arévalo and Mate Pavić in the quarterfinals, and Neal Skupski and Michael Venus in the semifinals. In the final, they defeated the Australian duo Jordan Thompson and Max Purcell in a three-set match, winning with three tie-breaks and saving three match points, to secure their first Grand Slam title together.
In October, Heliövaara and Patten were runners-up at the China Open, losing to Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori. The following week, they won the Stockholm Open.
