1. Club career
Christian Bassogog's professional club career began in his native Cameroon, developing through youth systems before moving to clubs in the United States and Europe, eventually making a significant impact in Asian leagues and returning to Europe.
1.1. Rainbow FC
Bassogog started his football journey in Cameroon with Rainbow FC, a second-division club. He graduated from their youth system before beginning his senior career there, marking his initial steps into professional football in his home country.
1.2. Wilmington Hammerheads
On April 29, 2015, Bassogog moved to the United States to join United Soccer League club Wilmington Hammerheads. During his tenure with the American club, he made 16 appearances and provided two assists. His promising performances attracted attention, leading to his transfer to the Danish club AaB. He officially signed a four-year contract with AaB on August 28, 2015.
1.3. AaB
Bassogog made his debut for AaB on September 29, 2015, in a Danish Cup match against Lystrup IF, coming on as a substitute in the second half with approximately 30 minutes remaining. During the Danish Superliga winter break on February 11, 2016, he featured as a forward in a friendly match against Sioni Bolnisi from Georgia, where he scored two goals. Following this performance, former head coach Lars Søndergaard indicated that Bassogog could potentially be utilized more often in a forward role rather than exclusively on the wing. On February 29, 2016, he made his Danish Superliga debut against Midtjylland, entering the game with ten minutes left. After his impressive displays for Cameroon at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, AaB's sporting director Allan Gaarde confirmed that multiple clubs had enquired about a potential transfer for Bassogog during the January 2017 transfer window.
1.4. Henan Jianye
On February 19, 2017, AaB officially announced Bassogog's departure to Chinese Super League side Henan Jianye. The transfer fee was reported to be 45.00 M DKK, equivalent to approximately 6.03 M EUR or 5.00 M GBP. This transfer set a new club record for AaB, surpassing the fee received for Jesper Grønkjær's move to Ajax Amsterdam in October 1997, which was approximately 3.50 M GBP. On July 31, 2020, Bassogog tested positive for COVID-19 in Guangzhou.
1.5. Shanghai Shenhua
On February 26, 2021, Bassogog signed with another Chinese Super League club, Shanghai Shenhua. He played for the club until 2024.
1.6. Ankaragücü
On February 8, 2024, Bassogog moved to Turkey, joining Ankaragücü on a one-and-a-half-year contract.
1.7. Al-Okhdood
On September 1, 2024, Bassogog transferred to Saudi Pro League club Al-Okhdood, where he currently plays.

2. International career
Christian Bassogog has had a distinguished international career representing the Cameroon national team at both youth and senior levels, participating in major continental and global tournaments.
2.1. Youth career
Bassogog also played for Cameroon's youth national teams. He made two appearances for the Cameroon U-23 team, although he did not score any goals in those matches.
2.2. Senior career
Bassogog was a prominent figure in Cameroon's triumph at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. He scored one crucial goal during the tournament, helping his team secure the victory, and was subsequently named the Best Player of AFCON 2017. His contributions were also recognized with his inclusion in the CAF Team of the Tournament for 2017.

On November 11, 2022, Bassogog was selected to represent Cameroon at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. During the tournament, on November 27, 2022, he received a yellow card from the referee for what was deemed an excessive goal celebration, despite not being on the field at the time. Cameroon also achieved a third-place finish in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
