During this period, SuperSport United entered into an affiliation agreement with English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur, which eventually led to Khumalo's transfer.

The transfer fee was 1.50 M GBP, and the move was subject to a work permit. Tottenham Hotspur officially confirmed the completion of his transfer on 7 January 2011.

After his time in England, Khumalo returned to South African football. On 4 August 2015, he signed with SuperSport United, marking his second spell with the club. He made 10 appearances in all competitions before moving to fellow Premier Soccer League side Bidvest Wits, where he played from 2016 to 2018. Following his stint at Bidvest Wits, Khumalo returned to SuperSport United for a third spell, playing for the club from 2018 until 2021.
