Alejandro Faurlín

1.1. Early Career

Faurlín began his playing career in 2004 with Rosario Central in the Primera División Argentina. He made his professional debut on 9 May 2004, in a 1-0 away defeat against Quilmes. He made only one appearance for his hometown club before joining Atlético de Rafaela in the Argentine 2nd division in 2007. In 2008, he had a brief spell with the Portuguese side Marítimo B, the reserve team of C.S. Marítimo. Following his time in Portugal, he returned to Argentina between 2008 and 2009 to play for Instituto de Córdoba, also in the Argentine 2nd division.

1.2. Queens Park Rangers

On 7 July 2009, Faurlín signed a three-year contract with Queens Park Rangers (QPR) in the Football League Championship. The transfer fee was initially reported as an alleged club record, potentially rising to 3.50 M GBP. However, The Football Association (FA) later found that there was no evidence QPR had paid this amount directly to Instituto. Instead, the player had joined the club on a Bosman transfer but was under contract with an American incorporated company called TYP Sports Agency LLC. TYP had acquired the player's rights from Instituto for only 250.00 K USD.

In 2010, TYP requested QPR to pay 1.00 M USD, which was approximately 615.00 K GBP at the time, and filed a complaint with the FA. In October, Faurlín extended his contract with QPR, at which point 200.00 K GBP was paid to TYP's owner, Peppino Tirri, as an agent fee. In January 2011, QPR subsequently paid 615.00 K GBP to TYP. Due to the involvement of third-party ownership, QPR was fined in 2011, as this arrangement violated regulations implemented by the FA after a similar high-profile case involving Carlos Tevez. While this violation could have resulted in a points deduction for QPR, the FA announced on 7 May 2011, that QPR would not be deducted any points. Consequently, QPR was promoted to the Premier League after securing first place in the 2010-11 Football League Championship. Prior to signing for QPR, Faurlín had declined opportunities to play in Spain, Italy, and Greece, expressing his enthusiasm to play in England for QPR due to his admiration for the English game and the club's ambition.

Faurlín made his QPR debut against Bristol City on 18 August 2009. He scored his first goal for the club against Sheffield Wednesday on 3 April 2010. He made an immediate impact on the QPR squad, and his contributions were recognized by both supporters and players, who voted him their Player of the Year at the end of the 2009-10 season.

Faurlín was a key member of the Rangers team that achieved promotion to the Premier League. He started his top-flight career strongly, forming an effective midfield partnership with new signing Joey Barton. On 7 January 2012, he captained the QPR team in an FA Cup match against Milton Keynes Dons, which ended in a 1-1 draw. However, during this match, he suffered a severe injury, rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right leg. This injury ruled him out for the remainder of the season and led to his exclusion from QPR's 25-man squad for the second half of the season.

After undergoing rehabilitation in his native Argentina and also in Barcelona, Faurlín made his return from injury in a League Cup match against Walsall on 28 August 2012, playing the full 90 minutes. He went on to start against Manchester City later that week. Faurlín earned his first assist of the 2012-13 campaign on 23 September 2012, by assisting Bobby Zamora's opening goal against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.

1.2.2. Return to Queens Park Rangers and Injuries

After his loan spell at Palermo, Faurlín returned to QPR at the end of the 2012-13 season. During his absence, QPR had been relegated from the Premier League back to the Football League Championship, the division where Faurlín had initially made his mark. He was one of the few players who remained with the club as QPR underwent a significant squad overhaul.

Faurlín began the 2013-14 season as a first-choice central midfielder, starting in the opening game against Sheffield Wednesday, which QPR won 2-1 at Loftus Road. He continued to be a regular presence in QPR's matches, regaining his status as a fan favorite. However, on 2 November 2013, during a home match against Derby County, a challenge from opposing midfielder John Eustace resulted in Faurlín being stretchered off the pitch. Two days later, scans confirmed that he had ruptured the ACL in his left leg. This was a re-occurrence of a similar injury he had suffered in his opposite leg 23 months prior, and the new injury once again ruled him out for the remainder of the season. While Faurlín was completing his rehabilitation, QPR secured promotion back to the Premier League on 24 May 2014, by winning the play-offs with a 1-0 victory over Derby at Wembley Stadium. Faurlín was present in the stands with QPR fans and joined his teammates on the pitch to celebrate after Bobby Zamora scored the winning goal in the 89th minute.

On 2 July 2014, Faurlín, who had become the club's longest-serving player, signed a new one-year deal with QPR. For successive seasons, he started the first league game of the season at home, this time against Hull City. However, his injury woes continued. On 27 August 2014, during an FA Cup game away to Burton Albion, he landed innocuously on his left knee and was replaced by Leroy Fer. Although Faurlín walked off the pitch without immediate distressing pain, subsequent scans revealed a re-occurrence of the previous injury he had only recovered from two months earlier. This third ACL injury in three years sidelined him for another nine months. QPR's head of medical services, Peter Florida James, stated that the ACL graft had ruptured. Despite these setbacks, he made his return to the QPR first team in August 2015.

1.3. Later Career

On 8 August 2016, Faurlín joined Segunda División side Getafe CF as a free agent. He later moved to Mexico to play for Cruz Azul during the 2017-18 Liga MX season. However, his time there was limited, as he only appeared in two league matches, playing a total of 13 minutes as a substitute.

On 23 January 2018, he terminated his contract with Cruz Azul and returned to Spain, signing with RCD Mallorca, who were then leading the Segunda División B. He was the club's fourth winter signing and signed a contract until the end of the season with an option for a two-year extension. In January 2019, Faurlín joined Marbella FC in Segunda División B on a loan deal until the end of the 2018-19 season. On 22 July 2019, he signed a permanent contract with Marbella FC.

In February 2021, Faurlín returned to Argentina and rejoined his former club, Instituto.
