Cheruiyot's first significant appearance on the international stage was at the 2015 IAAF World Relays in Nassau, Bahamas, where he competed as the anchor (1600m leg) for Kenya's Distance medley relay (DMR) team. Cheruiyot secured his spot for the Paris Olympics by finishing third in the 1500m at the Kenyan Olympic Trials. At the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Cheruiyot finished 11th in the 1500m final, fading in the last lap after attempting to maintain an early fast pace.
