1. Early life and background
Omar Bravo Tordecillas was born on March 4, 1980, in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico. His early football development led him to join the youth system of C.D. Guadalajara, a prominent club in Mexican football. He was brought into the Guadalajara youth setup by José Luis Real, a key figure in the club's development structure.
2. Club career
Omar Bravo's club career was marked by multiple stints with his beloved C.D. Guadalajara, interspersed with spells in Spanish and American leagues, where he consistently demonstrated his goalscoring prowess.
2.1. C.D. Guadalajara (first stint)
Bravo made his senior team debut with C.D. Guadalajara on February 17, 2001, under manager Jorge Dávalos in a goalless draw against Tigres UANL. He gradually established himself in the squad, becoming a regular starter during the 2002 Apertura season, where he played 15 games and scored 6 goals. His impactful performances earned him the tournament's Best Rookie award.
In the 2005 Clausura, Bravo finished as the joint-second top goalscorer in the league with 12 goals, which also earned him the Best Forward award for the tournament. The year 2006 proved highly successful for both Bravo and Guadalajara, as he played a crucial role in securing the Apertura 2006 championship title. He scored the opening goal in the first leg of the Apertura finals against Toluca, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Guadalajara ultimately won the final 3-2 on aggregate. Bravo finished as the club's top scorer for the tournament with 8 goals and was once again named the Best Forward.
Bravo's success extended to the continental stage in the 2007 CONCACAF Champions' Cup. He scored in his first appearance against W Connection F.C. and again in the first leg of the semifinals against D.C. United. In the first leg of the final on April 8, 2007, he netted a brace against Pachuca in a 2-2 draw. Despite Guadalajara losing the finals after a penalty shootout, Bravo finished as the joint-top scorer in the tournament with 4 goals. For the 2007 Clausura, he won the Golden Boot for most goals in the league, scoring 11 goals in 17 matches, and received his third Best Forward award.
On April 26, 2008, Bravo achieved a significant milestone by scoring his 100th goal for Guadalajara in a 4-0 victory over Puebla. This made him only the second player in the club's history to reach 100 goals, trailing only Salvador Reyes Monteón, who had 122 goals at that time. His final match of his first stint with Guadalajara was on May 17, 2008, where he scored against Monterrey in the Clausura quarter-finals. The match ended in a 4-4 tie, but Guadalajara lost 8-5 on aggregate, marking his departure from the club.
2.2. Deportivo de La Coruña

On May 22, 2008, Spanish club Deportivo de La Coruña announced that they had reached an agreement to sign Omar Bravo for three years as a free agent. Bravo became the second Mexican player in Deportivo's squad at that time, joining Andrés Guardado.
He made his league debut on August 31, 2008, in a 2-1 victory over Real Madrid. On December 8, he scored his first league goal for the club from a penalty kick in a 2-0 win against Málaga. Despite the initial promise, his tenure at the Spanish club was not as successful as anticipated, as he managed only nine league appearances, with just two as a starter, before departing. During his time with Deportivo, he was part of the squad that won the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2008.
2.3. Tigres UANL (loan)
On March 5, 2009, Bravo was loaned back to Mexico to join Tigres UANL for the remainder of the 2009 Clausura season. During this loan spell, he made 6 appearances but did not score any goals.
2.4. Return to C.D. Guadalajara (second stint)
Following his loan period with Tigres UANL, Omar Bravo made his second return to C.D. Guadalajara on August 6, 2009, signing a 1-year contract. The following month, he was named the club's captain. Even after signing with Sporting Kansas City for the 2011 season, Bravo remained on loan with Guadalajara for the rest of the 2010 Apertura season. During this period, he played in the 2010 Copa Libertadores finals against Brazilian club Internacional, where Guadalajara finished as runner-up.
2.5. Sporting Kansas City
On August 8, 2010, the Kansas City Wizards (now Sporting Kansas City) announced the signing of Omar Bravo as the squad's first Designated Player since Claudio López. Bravo officially joined the team at the beginning of the 2011 season. Upon his arrival in Kansas City, Bravo expressed his enthusiasm for joining the team and stated his belief that the level of play in MLS was among the best in the world.
In his debut for Sporting Kansas City against Chivas USA, he showcased his skill by scoring two goals in a 3-2 victory. Throughout the season, he scored nine goals for Kansas and was recognized for his outstanding performance, being named the MLS Latino Player of the Year. He was also selected for the 2011 MLS All-Star team.
2.6. Cruz Azul

On December 12, 2011, Sporting Kansas City confirmed that Omar Bravo would not be returning for the 2012 season, as he had signed with Cruz Azul in Mexico. Upon his return to his native country, he scored a brace against San Luis F.C. in a 3-1 home victory. However, after what was perceived as an underperforming period with Cruz Azul, the club subsequently transferred Bravo to Atlas F.C. on a loan deal. Bravo later admitted that he felt he had "failed" during his time at Cruz Azul.
2.7. Atlas F.C. (loan)

In December 2012, Omar Bravo joined Atlas F.C. on loan for the entirety of the following year, covering both the 2013 Clausura and 2013 Apertura tournaments. This move saw him join a rival club of his original team, C.D. Guadalajara, in the Clásico Tapatío derby. During his loan spell, he made 33 appearances and scored 12 goals.
2.8. Return to C.D. Guadalajara (third stint)

On June 4, 2013, it was announced that Omar Bravo would make his third return to C.D. Guadalajara. This move was part of a trade deal that saw Xavier Báez go to Cruz Azul following the conclusion of Bravo's loan stint with Atlas. In December 2013, Bravo was once again named the captain of the team, a testament to his leadership and enduring connection with the club.
On January 4, 2014, in his first match of this third stint, he scored in the 3rd minute against Santos Laguna in a 1-1 draw. On August 12, 2015, Bravo scored a brace at home against Morelia, a feat that propelled him past club legend Salvador Reyes with 123 goals, making him Guadalajara's all-time top scorer in league matches. On September 26, he scored another brace against rivals América in a 2-1 away victory. This achievement saw him surpass Salvador Reyes' overall goal record across all competitions, solidifying his status as Guadalajara's all-time leading scorer with 132 goals.
Bravo continued to play a pivotal role, scoring the only goal in the Apertura Copa MX semi-final against Toluca on October 28, 2015. The following month, on November 4, he led the team to victory in the Copa MX final with a 1-0 away win against León, securing Guadalajara's first major title in nine years. He finished the 2015-2016 season with 11 goals in 34 games. On July 10, 2016, Bravo scored his final goal for Guadalajara against Veracruz in the last minute of a 2-0 win, securing their first Supercopa MX title, their second major trophy in nine months, and clinching a spot for the 2017 Copa Libertadores.
2.9. Carolina RailHawks (loan)

On July 13, 2016, it was announced that Omar Bravo had signed with the North American Soccer League (NASL) club Carolina RailHawks. During his loan spell, he made 14 appearances and scored 4 goals.
2.10. Phoenix Rising FC (loan)
On February 9, 2017, it was announced that Bravo had signed with the recently re-branded USL club Phoenix Rising FC (formerly Arizona United). He played 13 matches and scored 1 goal for the club.
