1. Club career
Magnus Eriksson's professional club career spans over a decade, beginning in the youth ranks of AIK before moving through several clubs in Sweden and internationally. This section details his journey through various teams, highlighting key transfers, achievements, and his evolution as a player.
1.1. Youth and Early Career
Eriksson began his football journey in the academy of AIK in 2006, where he was later promoted to the first team under manager Rikard Norling. Despite his promotion, he did not make any competitive appearances for AIK. To gain playing time, Eriksson was sent on loan to several clubs. In 2008, he had loan spells at Akropolis IF, which was then in Division 2 Södra Svealand, where he made 9 appearances and scored 4 goals. He also played for Täby IS in Division 3 Norra Svealand, appearing once and scoring one goal, and for FC Väsby United in Superettan, making 10 appearances.
In 2009, his loan spell at FC Väsby United was made permanent. Eriksson spent an additional two seasons with the club, significantly increasing his playing time and contributing offensively. During the 2010 Superettan season, he was a key player, scoring 11 goals in 29 matches.
1.2. Åtvidabergs FF

Before the 2011 Superettan season, Eriksson transferred from Väsby United to fellow Superettan club Åtvidabergs FF. His time at Åtvidaberg proved to be highly successful. In the 2011 season, he scored 15 goals in 30 matches, finishing as the league's third-best goal scorer and playing a crucial role in helping the club win the Superettan title and secure promotion to Allsvenskan, Sweden's top-tier league.
In the 2012 Allsvenskan season, Eriksson continued his strong performance, scoring 11 goals in 20 matches before he was transferred to Belgian club K.A.A. Gent during the 2012 summer transfer window.
1.3. K.A.A. Gent
On August 21, 2012, Eriksson officially transferred to K.A.A. Gent in the Belgian Pro League. However, his tenure at the club was brief and marked by limited opportunities. During the 2012-13 Belgian Pro League season, he made only four league appearances. The club experienced instability with three different managers during that period, which contributed to Eriksson receiving minimal playing time.
1.4. Malmö FF

Eriksson returned to Swedish football on January 21, 2013, joining Allsvenskan club Malmö FF on a four-year contract. A significant factor in his decision to join Malmö FF was the personal interest expressed by his former manager, Rikard Norling, who was then managing the club.
His first season at Malmö FF in 2013 was highly successful. Eriksson became the club's top scorer and top assisting player. He scored 11 goals in 30 league matches and provided 14 assists, the highest number in the 2013 Allsvenskan season. He also participated in all of Malmö FF's matches during the qualification stage for the 2013-14 UEFA Europa League, scoring two goals. During this season, he initially played alongside Tokelo Rantie and later with the returning Guillermo Molins after Rantie's summer transfer. For his outstanding performances, he was nominated for both "forward of the year" and "most valuable player of the year," though he ultimately lost both awards to Tobias Hysén of IFK Göteborg.
In the following 2014 Allsvenskan season, Eriksson continued to be a vital part of the team. He played a key role in Malmö FF successfully defending their league title and qualifying for the group stage of the 2014-15 UEFA Champions League. He made 30 league appearances, scoring five times, and also participated in eleven of Malmö FF's matches in the Champions League. His exceptional goal against Red Bull Salzburg on August 27, 2014, earned him the "goal of the year" award at the annual Fotbollsgalan.
1.5. Guizhou Renhe
On December 15, 2014, it was announced that Eriksson would transfer to Chinese Super League side Guizhou Renhe. The transfer was finalized and went through on January 1, 2015, when the Chinese transfer window opened, marking his venture into Asian football.
1.6. Brøndby IF
On July 10, 2015, Eriksson transferred to Danish club Brøndby IF on a four-year deal. During his time at Brøndby, he was primarily deployed as a right midfielder.
1.7. Djurgårdens IF (first stint)
Eriksson returned to Swedish football on June 16, 2016, signing a 3.5-year deal with Djurgårdens IF. Although his preferred number was 7, it was already taken, so he was assigned number 77, which had last been worn by Abgar Barsom in 2006. On August 14, 2016, Eriksson scored his first goal for Djurgården in a match against IF Elfsborg at the Tele2 Arena. During his initial period at the club, he was primarily utilized as a winger.
Ahead of the 2017 season, Eriksson's shirt number was changed from 77 to his preferred 7. He had a standout season in 2017, scoring 14 league goals, which made him a joint top scorer in Allsvenskan for the season.
1.8. San Jose Earthquakes
On December 20, 2017, the San Jose Earthquakes of MLS announced they had signed Eriksson as a Designated Player. He made his MLS debut on March 3, 2018, in San Jose's season-opening 3-2 victory over Minnesota United. Eriksson scored his first MLS goal, assisted by Danny Hoesen, in his fourth appearance, a 1-1 draw with the Philadelphia Union on April 7, 2018.
1.9. Return to Djurgårdens IF and later career
On August 21, 2020, Eriksson made his second return to Djurgårdens IF, transferring for an undisclosed fee. Prior to the 2021 season, he was appointed team captain, taking over from Jesper Karlström who had transferred to Lech Poznań. Following the 2021 season, Eriksson received significant individual accolades at the league awards Allsvenskans stora pris, being named both "Best Midfielder" and "Most Valuable Player." In early 2022, on January 9, Eriksson's contract with Djurgårdens IF was extended until the end of the 2025 season. Despite the contract extension, limited playtime in the spring of 2024 led to media reports of interest from other Allsvenskan teams, such as IFK Värnamo.
On February 18, 2025, Eriksson signed with Ettan team FC Stockholm for the 2025 season, marking a reunion with his former coach from AIK and Malmö FF, Rikard Norling.
