Justin Meram was born on December 4, 1988, in the Detroit area of Michigan, United States. He is the youngest of four sons born to Hikmat "Sam" Aziz Meram and Lamia Mansour Hormis. Both of Meram's parents are ethnic Assyrians, specifically from the Tel Keppe District near Mosul, Iraq. Their religious background is Chaldean Catholic, an ancient Assyrian Christian community. His father immigrated to the United States in 1967, followed by his mother in 1975, where they met in Michigan.
