2.1. Early life

Jaaved Jaffrey was born on 4 December 1962, in Bombay, Maharashtra, India, which is now known as Mumbai. He is the son of the renowned Indian comedian Jagdeep.

Jaffrey married in 1991. He has two sons and one daughter, including his son Meezaan Jafri, who has also pursued a career in acting.

3.1. Acting and Comedy

Jaffrey made his acting debut in the 1985 film Meri Jung, where he played the role of a villain and demonstrated his dancing abilities on screen. His comedic style found a significant platform with the advent of cable television, particularly through channels like [V], which allowed him to express his unique brand of humor. He was recognized as "TVdom's first real superstar" for his innovative approach to comedy. His performance in the 2005 film Salaam Namaste earned him critical acclaim, including an IIFA Best Comedian Award. He has appeared in various films, including Roadside Romeo, The Forest, and Total Dhamaal, often bringing a distinctive comedic presence. On television, he acted in shows such as Mr. Shrimati, where he portrayed a woman, and Zabaan Sambhalke. He also appeared in the Pakistani program Loose Talk, where he depicted various characters from India.

A skilled dancer and choreographer, Jaaved Jaffrey showcased his dancing prowess early in his career, notably in his debut film Meri Jung. His passion for dance extended to television, where he became a prominent figure in dance reality shows. He co-hosted and served as a judge for the popular dance competition show Boogie Woogie on Sony Entertainment Television Asia alongside his brother Naved Jaffery and friend Ravi Behl. This show, which ran from 1996 to 2014, became a significant platform for aspiring dancers in India.

Jaaved Jaffrey has an extensive career as a television host and presenter, known for his engaging and often humorous style. He has hosted numerous prestigious award ceremonies, including the Filmfare Awards, Zee Cine Awards, and IIFA Awards. His hosting roles also include commentating on popular Japanese game shows like Takeshi's Castle on Pogo TV and Ninja Warrior on Hungama TV. He anchored several other television programs such as Flashback (which celebrated its third anniversary in 1997), Timex Timepass (where he performed various caricatures), Road Raja, Bam Bam Bam Gir Pade Hum, Mai Ka Lal, and Back to Flashback. He also hosted radio show Big Googly on BIG FM 92.7 with Paritosh Painter and Once More on Epic channel since 2015, discussing Bollywood films from the 1970s to the 1990s in his comedic style. Additionally, he served as a judge for the Karaoke World Championships India.

3.4. Voice Acting and Narration

Jaffrey is also a notable voice actor and narrator. He voiced the character Charlie Anna in the animated film Roadside Romeo, a collaboration between Yash Raj Films and Disney. He has lent his voice to the Hindi dubs of various international animated films, including Shere Khan in The Jungle Book 2 (2003) and Buddy Pine/Syndrome in The Incredibles (2004), which was released in Hindi as "Hum Hain Lajawab." His narration work extends to television, where he provided the Hindi commentary for the Japanese game shows Takeshi's Castle and Ninja Warrior, and later for the Netflix series Floor Is Lava.

Jaaved Jaffrey has been actively involved in the advertising industry since 1980, taking on roles as a model, choreographer, copywriter, producer, and director. He is particularly recognized for his long-standing association with the comical Maggi Hot & Sweet Sauce commercials, appearing in them for 25 years. Beyond advertising, he has ventured into film production, notably producing the documentary films Inshallah, Football (2011) and Inshallah, Kashmir (2012). His contributions to the industry have been recognized with a life membership of the International Film And Television Club of Asian Academy of Film & Television. In 2015, he was appointed as the brand ambassador for the first India International Animation and Cartoon Film festival.
