Hiroji Imamura was born on April 27, 1949, in Minakuchi-cho, Koka-gun, Shiga Prefecture (now part of Koka City), Japan. He received his education in Japan, attending Shiga Prefectural Koga High School. Imamura's club career was predominantly defined by his long and successful tenure with Yanmar Diesel, where he became a crucial component of one of Japan's most formidable football teams during the 1970s and early 1980s.

After graduating from high school, Hiroji Imamura joined Yanmar Diesel in 1968. He quickly established himself as a key player, occupying the position of an "unmovable right winger." In this role, Imamura became well-known for his exceptional ability to provide numerous assists to the team's prolific ace striker, Kunishige Kamamoto, forming a highly effective attacking duo. His significant contribution to the team's offensive prowess was recognized when he earned the "Assist King" title in 1975.
During his time with Yanmar Diesel, the club achieved remarkable success, winning the Japan Soccer League championship four times in 1971, 1974, 1975, and 1980.
