1.1. Birth and Nickname
Diego Novaretti was born on 9 May 1985, in La Palestina, Argentina. He is commonly known by his nickname, "El Flaco."
2. Club Career
Novaretti's professional football journey saw him play for clubs in Argentina, Mexico, and Italy, making a mark as a solid defender.
2.1. Club Atlético Belgrano
Novaretti began his junior and senior career at Club Atlético Belgrano. He made his professional debut with the club in 2006. During his time at Belgrano, he became known for his notable height and quickness on the field.
2.2. Deportivo Toluca
Following the departure of Paulo da Silva, rumors circulated that Novaretti might join Deportivo Toluca, with coach José Manuel de la Torre expressing strong interest in acquiring him. On 22 July 2009, his transfer to Toluca was officially confirmed. However, there were reports that he had left his previous club without a transfer fee. He made his debut for Toluca on 6 September 2009, playing the entire 90 minutes in a match against Morelia (now Club Atlético Morelia), which Toluca won 1-0. His first goal for the club came on 4 April 2010, in a commanding 5-0 victory against Estudiantes Tecos.
2.3. S.S. Lazio
In the summer of 2013, Novaretti joined Lazio as a free agent from Toluca, signing a four-year contract with the Italian club. Interestingly, he was initially a target for Manchester City, but their interest reportedly waned after Roberto Mancini was relieved of his duties as manager. Novaretti made his Serie A debut for Lazio on 25 August 2013, in a 2-1 win against Udinese. He later debuted in the UEFA Europa League on 19 September 2013, coming on as a substitute for Keita Baldé against Legia Warsaw. In his first season, the 2013-14 campaign, Novaretti made 17 appearances across all competitions for Lazio.
