Gastaldello began his football journey in the youth academy of Calcio Padova. His early development at Padova laid the foundation for his professional career as a defender. After his time with Padova, he was acquired by Juventus in 2002.
2. Playing Career
Daniele Gastaldello's professional playing career spanned nearly two decades, during which he became a prominent defender for several Italian clubs and earned a cap for the national team.
2.1. Club Career
Gastaldello started his senior career with Calcio Padova before moving to Juventus in 2002, where he played in the Primavera squad. In 2003, as part of a transfer involving Nicola Legrottaglie, Gastaldello was sold to Chievo along with Matteo Paro and Giuseppe Sculli. He was subsequently loaned to Crotone in January 2004, playing there until 2005.

In 2005, Juventus re-acquired him but then sold him in a co-ownership deal to Siena for 450.00 K EUR. Matteo Paro also joined Siena at this time. By 2007, Juventus bought back Siena's share for 650.00 K EUR and then sold Gastaldello to Sampdoria for 1.25 M EUR.
At Sampdoria, Gastaldello became a central figure in the team's defense. On 5 March 2010, he extended his contract with Sampdoria until 2014. Partnering with Stefano Lucchini, he played a key role in the 2009-10 Serie A season, helping the team finish 4th. In the 2010-11 UEFA Europa League season, he frequently partnered with Massimo Volta, while continuing his partnership with Lucchini in domestic competitions. In March 2011, he signed a new five-year contract with Sampdoria, effective from 1 July 2011, which would keep him with the club until 2016. He was known for his high tactical understanding, making him a central player under coaches like Walter Mazzarri and Luigi Delneri, adapting well to both three- and four-man defensive formations.
After his tenure at Sampdoria, Gastaldello moved to Bologna FC in 2015, where he played until 2017. He then joined Brescia in 2017 and played for the club until 2020. He retired from playing professional football after the 2019-20 season.

Daniele Gastaldello represented Italy at various youth levels. He earned 1 cap for the Italy U-17 team in 2001, 9 caps and 1 goal for the Italy U-19 team in 2001, and 22 caps and 1 goal for the Italy U-20 team between 2002 and 2004.

Upon retiring as a professional footballer, Daniele Gastaldello embarked on a coaching career, initially taking on assistant and caretaker roles before becoming a head coach.
4.1. Early Coaching Roles
After ending his playing career, Gastaldello accepted a position as a technical assistant coach at Brescia. On 7 December 2020, following the dismissal of Diego López as head coach, Gastaldello was appointed as the club's interim head coach. During this brief tenure, he oversaw one match, a 2-2 draw against Cremonese, before returning to his technical assistant role after the appointment of Davide Dionigi as the new boss. He had a second short caretaker stint at Brescia between 3 February 2021 and 7 February 2021. On 21 December 2022, Gastaldello was sacked by Brescia with immediate effect, coinciding with the dismissal of Pep Clotet as head coach.
4.2. Head Coach Appointments
Despite his previous dismissal, Daniele Gastaldello was re-hired by Brescia on 20 February 2023, this time taking on the formal role of the club's new head coach. During his tenure, Brescia faced significant challenges, including relegation to Serie C following a defeat by Cosenza. However, Gastaldello was initially confirmed as manager for the subsequent season. Brescia was later readmitted to Serie B to fill a vacancy created by the exclusion of Reggina. On 10 November 2023, after a period of negative results that saw Brescia in 13th place in the Serie B league table, Gastaldello was dismissed from his head coaching position once again.
On 18 June 2024, Gastaldello was announced as the new head coach of Serie C club Legnago Salus. However, his tenure at Legnago Salus was short-lived, as he was sacked on 26 September 2024, following a poor start to the season with six defeats in the first six league games.
