1. Early life and amateur career
Yamamoto's early career was marked by significant achievements in both high school and university football, demonstrating his potential as a promising midfielder.
1.1. Childhood and high school
Yamamoto played for local clubs in Fujiidera, Osaka during his middle school years. Driven by a desire to become a professional and participate in the highly scouted National High School Soccer Championship, he enrolled in Yonego Kita High School. In his third year, Yamamoto, playing as a two-top forward with Koya Tanio, helped his team achieve a runner-up finish in the National High School Sports Festival Soccer Tournament. That same year, he earned the top scorer title with seven goals in the Prince Takamado Cup All Japan Youth (U-18) Football Championship.
1.2. University career
Following high school, Yamamoto attended Osaka University of Health and Sport Sciences. He quickly established himself as a regular player. In his second year, he was a key member of the team that won the Prime Minister's Cup All Japan University Soccer Tournament. In his fourth and final year, during the All Japan University Soccer Championship, Yamamoto notably scored a hat-trick in the final match against Kokushikan University, contributing significantly to his team's first championship victory in 28 years. For his outstanding performance, he was recognized as the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP).
2. Professional club career
Yamamoto's professional club career began in 2014 and has spanned several Japanese leagues, from the J3 League to various regional divisions.
2.1. Gainare Tottori
In 2014, Yamamoto joined Gainare Tottori, a club located in the region where he spent his high school years. He made his J.League debut on March 9, 2014, in the J3 League opening match against Iwate Grulla Morioka at Tottori Bank Bird Stadium. Although he started his tenure with regular appearances, he sustained an injury during practice. He was diagnosed with a left knee lateral meniscus tear and underwent surgery in July 2014. After recovering, he continued to play for Gainare Tottori through the 2015 season, scoring his first J.League goal on April 5, 2015, in a J3 match against the J.League U-22 Selection at the same stadium. He made 15 appearances in 2014 and 30 appearances, scoring 4 goals, in 2015 for the club in league play.
2.2. Tochigi SC
In 2016, Yamamoto transferred to Tochigi SC. During his time with the club, he played in 20 league matches and scored 1 goal. At the end of the 2016 season, his contract with Tochigi SC was not renewed, leading to his departure.
2.3. Regional and lower league clubs
After leaving Tochigi SC, Yamamoto continued his career in Japan's regional and lower football leagues. In 2017, he joined Amitie SC Kyoto, which later rebranded as Ococias Kyoto AC. He played for the club for three seasons until 2019.
In 2020, Yamamoto moved to Arterivo Wakayama. He then joined FC Kariya in 2021, but his tenure there lasted only one year before his departure was announced in early 2022.
On January 25, 2022, Yamamoto signed with WYVERN, a team competing in the Tokai Adult Soccer League Division 2. He remained with WYVERN until the end of the 2024 season, demonstrating consistent performance. On December 7, 2024, it was announced that Yamamoto would be re-joining Ococias Kyoto AC for the 2025 season.
