Daiki Tomii's football journey began in his formative years, progressing through youth academies and distinguishing himself at both high school and university levels before embarking on his professional career.
2.1. Youth Football
Tomii started his football development with the Urawa Kizaki Soccer Sports Youth Team, attending Saitama Municipal Kizaki Elementary School. From 2003 to 2005, he was part of the Urawa Red Diamonds junior youth system while attending Saitama Municipal Kizaki Junior High School, laying the groundwork for his skills as a goalkeeper.
2.2. High School and University
From 2006 to 2008, Daiki Tomii attended Bunang High School, where his talent was recognized on a national level. During his second year, he participated in the National High School Soccer Championship and was selected as an "Outstanding Player" of the tournament (2006). He was also chosen for the Japan High School Selection team in 2007, showcasing his potential at a young age.
After graduating from high school, Tomii initially enrolled in a different university but withdrew after one year due to various circumstances. He then received an offer from Tokyo International University, which was actively strengthening its football program, and subsequently enrolled there from 2009 to 2012. He quickly became a regular starter from his first year and later served as the team captain. His leadership and performance earned him a selection to the Kanto University Selection team in 2012 during his third year. Tomii's progression marked a significant milestone for Tokyo International University, as he became the first player from the university to join the J.League.
3. Professional Club Career
Daiki Tomii's professional career saw him play for several Japanese clubs, navigating between different leagues and roles, consistently performing as a goalkeeper.
3.1. Thespakusatsu Gunma
In 2013, Daiki Tomii officially joined Thespakusatsu Gunma, marking his entry into professional football. During his first year, he served as the third-choice goalkeeper behind Kazuma Kita and Keisuke Naito, resulting in no appearances. However, he increasingly made the bench towards the end of the season. In his second year, 2014, he again started as the third-choice, initially not even making the bench. However, after both Kita and Naito showed inconsistent form, Tomii seized his opportunity, making his professional debut in a J2 League match against Mito HollyHock on July 20, 2014. He quickly established himself as a starter, retaining the position for the remainder of the season and appearing in 21 league matches. In 2015, he maintained his starting role from the previous year, achieving a career-high 40 league appearances.
3.2. Montedio Yamagata
In 2016, Tomii transferred permanently to Montedio Yamagata. He became the backup goalkeeper to the team's primary goalkeeper, Norihiro Yamagishi, limiting his appearances to one league match and two Emperor's Cup matches. After Yamagishi's departure, Tsuyoshi Kodama joined the team, and Tomii continued in a backup role, making only four league appearances in 2017.
3.3. Shonan Bellmare
For the 2018 season, Tomii made a permanent move to Shonan Bellmare. In his inaugural season, his playing time was restricted to two J.League Cup matches. His role as a backup continued into 2019 until November 9, when he made his J1 League debut as a starter in the 31st match against Cerezo Osaka. Following this match, he successfully took over the starting position from Yota Akimoto.
In 2020, with Akimoto moving to FC Machida Zelvia on loan, Tomii was assigned the number 1 jersey and began the season as the starting goalkeeper. However, as the team's performance faltered, he eventually lost his position to Kosei Tani, who joined on loan from Gamba Osaka. By mid-season, Tomii was relegated to the backup role, and by the end of the season, he was no longer even on the bench, as Masaaki Goto took over as the second-choice goalkeeper.
For the 2021 season, Tomii ceded the number 1 jersey back to Tani and switched to number 23, the number he had worn in his first professional year. With Goto's transfer, Tomii returned to the role of second-choice goalkeeper. He made his first official appearance in six months in the J.League Cup match against Urawa Red Diamonds. On May 19 of the same year, in the 6th J.League Cup match against Kashiwa Reysol, Tomii made several crucial saves under intense pressure from Kashiwa, helping Shonan secure a clean sheet and advance to the playoff stage. Overall, he played in four matches that season, including games against Gamba Osaka when Tani was ineligible to play against his parent club.
In the 2023 season, after Tani returned to Gamba, Song Bum-keun, a South Korean international, joined Shonan. Tomii continued to serve as the second-choice goalkeeper. However, when Bum-keun suffered an injury, Tomii stepped in and delivered strong performances, earning the J1 League Monthly MVP award for October 2023.

On July 26, 2024, it was announced that Tomii would join Mito HollyHock on a loan deal. His loan spell concluded at the end of December 2024.
