2.2. Club Career
Matsumoto began his professional club career in 1996 when he joined J1 League club Gamba Osaka. He made his J.League debut on May 31, 1997. Despite his debut, he struggled to secure regular playing time during his tenure at Gamba Osaka, making few appearances until his departure in 1999.
In 2000, Matsumoto transferred to J2 League club Omiya Ardija. Initially, he continued to have limited opportunities, but his playing time gradually increased, and he became a regular starter for the club in 2002.
