Corrinne May was born Corrinne Foo May Ying on January 19, 1973, in Singapore. A Singaporean national, she pursued a comprehensive education that laid the groundwork for her musical career. She attended Raffles Junior College and the National University of Singapore. Later, she further honed her musical talents by graduating from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, which marked a pivotal step in her development as a singer-songwriter.

In 2003, Corrinne May married Kavin Hoo, whom she first met in late 1996. The couple has one daughter, Claire Hoo. Her experiences as a mother profoundly impacted her music, particularly inspiring her 2012 album, *Crooked Lines*. This album was largely conceived during a four-year hiatus from her career, a period during which she dedicated herself to raising Claire. Her family life, especially her bond with her daughter, continues to be a source of creative inspiration for her work.

After graduating from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Corrinne May embarked on her professional career as a singer-songwriter in Los Angeles, where she continues to be based. Her debut album, *Fly Away*, was released in 2001, marking the official start of her active years in the music industry. This album featured a notable collaboration on the song "If You Didn't Love Me," which she co-wrote and performed with renowned musicians Carole King and Carole Bayer Sager.
