1. Club career
André André's club career began in youth academies before he made his senior debut with Varzim S.C.. He later moved to Vitória S.C. and FC Porto, achieving a national championship title with the latter. He had a second spell at Vitória before moving to Al-Ittihad Club on loan and eventually joining Leixões S.C..
1.1. Early career and Varzim SC
Born in Vila do Conde, André André developed his football skills in the youth systems of FC Porto and Varzim S.C.. He made his senior debut with Varzim in 2008, accumulating six goals in 49 Segunda Liga appearances over two seasons.
In the first half of the 2010-11 campaign, André André moved to Spain, joining Deportivo de La Coruña B on a 2+2 contract. During his time there, he made only three appearances in Segunda División B before the team suffered relegation. He returned to Varzim in January 2011. In the 2011-12 season, André André, playing from midfield, scored 12 goals, helping Varzim secure a return to the second division after just one year. However, the team was ultimately not promoted due to irregularities.
1.2. Vitória Guimarães
In the summer of 2012, André André signed with Vitória S.C. in the Primeira Liga. In his first year with the club, he made five scoreless appearances in the Taça de Portugal, contributing to Vitória's historic first-ever victory in the competition in 2012-13. On 27 April 2014, he was one of four first-team players who played for the B team in a crucial 2-1 home victory against promotion rivals F.C. Vizela.
During the 2014-15 season, André André scored 11 goals, with eight of them coming from penalties. His contributions helped the Minho Province-based side finish fifth in the league, securing qualification for the UEFA Europa League. A notable highlight of this season was his hat-trick in a 4-0 home win against C.D. Nacional on 4 January 2015.
1.3. Porto
André André returned to FC Porto in June 2015, eight years after his youth spell there, signing a four or five-year contract. In late September of that year, he scored his first competitive goals for the club in two home matches played nine days apart. He contributed to a 1-0 victory over S.L. Benfica and a 2-1 win against Chelsea in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. In the 2017-18 campaign, André André participated in 13 matches, playing a part in his team's triumph in the national championship, ending a five-year wait for the title.

1.4. Return to Vitória Guimarães
André André made his return to Vitória S.C. on 4 July 2018. In his debut match on 10 August, he scored a goal in a 3-2 loss against Benfica. Just fifteen days later, upon his return to the Estádio do Dragão, he converted a penalty kick as Vitória Guimarães came back from a half-time deficit to defeat Porto 3-2.
On 21 March 2021, André André extended his contract at the Estádio D. Afonso Henriques until June 2024. However, in January of the following year, he was loaned to Saudi Professional League club Al-Ittihad Club (Jeddah), with a buying option of 1.00 M EUR.
1.5. Later career
On 30 July 2024, André André joined second-tier club Leixões S.C. as a free agent, marking the latest stage of his professional career.
2. International career
André André represented Portugal at the under-19 level. He made his debut for the senior national team on 31 March 2015, coming on as a 66th-minute substitute for Adrien Silva in a 0-2 friendly defeat against Cape Verde in Estoril.
His only goal for the national team came on 17 November 2015. He finished a cross from Vieirinha to open the scoring in a 2-0 victory over Luxembourg at the Stade Josy Barthel.
3. Personal life
André André's father, António André, was also a professional footballer and a midfielder. António André notably played for FC Porto for more than a decade and represented Portugal at the 1986 FIFA World Cup.
