Talant Mamytov was born on March 14, 1976, in Mailuu-Suu, a city in the Jalal-Abad Region of the Kyrgyz SSR, which is now part of modern-day Kyrgyzstan.
2. Political Career
Talant Mamytov's political career saw him rise through the ranks of the Kyrgyz parliament, eventually assuming the highest office in the country on an interim basis.
2.1. Member of the Supreme Council of Kyrgyzstan
Mamytov is a prominent member of the Supreme Council of Kyrgyzstan, which is the unicameral parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic. Within the parliament, he serves as a deputy representing the Republic-Ata Zhurt faction, a political party in Kyrgyzstan.
2.2. Speaker of the Supreme Council of Kyrgyzstan
On November 4, 2020, Talant Mamytov was elected as the Speaker of the Supreme Council of Kyrgyzstan. His election to this position followed the resignation of interim President Sadyr Japarov. As Speaker, Mamytov was responsible for presiding over the legislative body. Given the vacancy in the presidency at the time, the Speaker of the Supreme Council automatically became the interim head of state of Kyrgyzstan. He held the position of Speaker until October 5, 2022.
2.3. Acting President of Kyrgyzstan
Following the presidential vacancy in Kyrgyzstan, Talant Mamytov assumed the duties of acting President of Kyrgyzstan. He served in this capacity from November 14, 2020, to January 28, 2021. His role as acting president was a direct consequence of his position as Speaker of the Supreme Council during a period of political uncertainty and transition in the country.
