Spencer Treat Clark

1.1. Birth and family

Clark was born on September 24, 1987, in New York City. He is the brother of screenwriter and playwright Eliza Clark. Through his sister Eliza, he is connected to the Whedon family, including his brothers-in-law Zack Whedon, Joss Whedon, and Jed Whedon, as well as his sisters-in-law Maurissa Tancharoen and Kevin Tancharoen. His extended family also includes his father-in-law Tom Whedon and grandfather-in-law John Whedon.

1.2. Education

Clark received his early education in Darien, Connecticut, attending Hindley Elementary School, Middlesex Middle School, and Darien High School. He later attended and graduated from the Taft School in Watertown, Connecticut. Clark continued his higher education at Columbia University in New York City, where he earned bachelor's degrees in political science and economics. He currently resides in Los Angeles.

2.1. Debut and early career

Clark began his professional acting career in 1995. His first television role was in the series Another World. He made his film debut in Arlington Road in 1999.

2.2. Breakthrough and notable roles

Clark rose to prominence with two significant film roles in 2000: Lucius Verus Aurelius in the critically acclaimed historical epic Gladiator, and Joseph Dunn, the son of the protagonist, in M. Night Shyamalan's superhero thriller Unbreakable. He reprised his role as Joseph Dunn in the 2019 sequel, Glass.

His filmography also includes roles such as Ray "Silent Ray" Harris Jr. in the 2003 mystery drama Mystic River, Justin Stillo in the 2009 horror film The Last House on the Left, and Borachio in the 2012 adaptation of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. He also appeared in the 2014 film Cymbeline and the series finale of Mad Men in 2015.

On television, Clark had a recurring role as Werner von Strucker throughout the third and fifth seasons of the Marvel series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. from 2015 to 2018. From 2016 to 2019, he also held a recurring role as Adrian Dolan in the drama series Animal Kingdom. In August 2021, it was announced that Clark would portray Mike Ryerson in the film adaptation of Stephen King's 'Salem's Lot, produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema.
