3.1. Wolverhampton Wanderers
After signing his professional contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers in February 2009, Scott Malone immediately went on a loan spell to Hungarian club Újpest, a partner club of Wolves. He made his Újpest debut on March 7, 2009, in a 2-0 victory over Siófok. Malone scored his first goal for Újpest on April 24, 2009, in a 3-0 win against Budapest Honvéd. During his time there, he made eight appearances and scored once, helping Újpest finish second in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I and qualify for the newly formed UEFA Europa League.
On November 24, 2009, Malone joined League One club Southend United on a loan deal. He made his debut for Southend United on the same day, starting in a 2-0 loss against Tranmere Rovers. On December 12, 2009, Malone assisted Francis Laurent's opening goal in a 3-2 win against Hartlepool United. He became a regular in the left-back position, and his loan was extended until the end of the 2000s-10 season. Despite suffering an injury, Malone made 17 appearances for Southend during a campaign that ended in the club's relegation. Following the end of his loan, Malone signed a one-year contract extension with Wolves.
On October 22, 2010, Malone went on another loan, joining League Two club Burton Albion for a one-month period. His debut for Burton Albion came the next day, playing the full 90 minutes in a 3-0 win over Bradford City. His impressive performance, which included helping the club keep a clean sheet and nearly scoring, earned him a Man of the Match Award. After making 11 appearances, his loan was extended until the end of the season. Despite further injuries, Malone scored his first goal in English football on April 30, 2011, in a 1-1 draw against his former loan club, Southend United. He concluded his spell at Burton Albion with 22 appearances. Although linked with a return to Burton Albion for the 2011-12 season, both manager Paul Peschisolido and Malone himself ruled out the move. Despite signing a new contract with Wolves, the club placed a transfer price tag of approximately 150.00 K GBP on him.
3.2. AFC Bournemouth
On July 18, 2011, Scott Malone moved to League One side AFC Bournemouth on an initial six-month loan agreement. He made his Bournemouth debut in the season's opening match, a 3-0 defeat to Charlton Athletic. Between October 29 and November 12, 2011, Malone showcased his scoring ability by netting three goals in three games against Preston North End, Scunthorpe United, and Gillingham in the first round of the FA Cup. After initially playing at left-back, he transitioned into a left-midfield role under manager Lee Bradbury due to the emergence of Warren Cummings in his primary position.
Having established himself as a regular player for Bournemouth, a permanent transfer was agreed upon on December 23, 2011. In January 2012, upon the re-opening of the transfer window, Malone formally signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with the club for an undisclosed fee, which was reported to be around 150.00 K GBP.
Following his permanent transfer, Malone unfortunately suffered a hamstring injury that kept him out for an extended period. However, in his first game after signing permanently, on February 7, 2012, he scored and assisted a goal for Matt Tubbs in a 2-0 victory over Exeter City. He added two more goals during the season, against Stevenage and Huddersfield Town. Malone concluded the 2011-12 season with 32 appearances and five goals for Bournemouth.

Malone's departure from Bournemouth was reportedly met with discontent from some supporters due to a comment he made. Upon his arrival at Millwall, he was assigned the number 28 shirt for the upcoming 2012-13 season.
Malone made his Millwall debut in the first round of the League Cup against Crawley Town on August 14, 2012. He played the entire 120 minutes, including extra time, but Millwall were eliminated after a 5-2 penalty shoot-out loss. His league debut came in the season's opening game, an August 18, 2012, 2-0 defeat against Blackpool. Three days later, on August 21, 2012, Malone scored his first Millwall goal in a 2-1 victory over Peterborough United. However, he struggled to secure a consistent first-team spot, spending much of the season on the substitute bench and also dealing with injury concerns. He finished his first season at Millwall with 16 appearances and one goal across all competitions.
For the 2013-14 season, Malone continued to face periods on the sidelines at the beginning of the campaign. He made his first appearance of the season as a left-back in a 3-1 win over Blackpool on September 17, 2013. Two weeks later, on September 28, Malone scored his second Millwall goal in a 2-0 victory over Leeds United. On November 2, 2013, during a 2-2 draw against Burnley, he suffered an injury that forced his substitution after just seven minutes, though a subsequent scan confirmed no ligament damage. After weeks out, Malone returned to the first team on November 23, 2013, in a 1-0 win over Barnsley. He continued to experience injury issues throughout the season. A week after one of his returns, on April 5, 2014, Malone scored his third goal for the club in a 2-1 win against Nottingham Forest. At the close of the 2013-14 Championship season, Scott Malone finished as runner-up for the club's "Player of the Year" award, following a series of impressive performances. Despite his injuries, Malone made 33 appearances and scored two goals that season.
In the 2014-15 season, Malone maintained his status as a first-team regular. He scored his first goal of the season on August 30, 2014, in a 2-1 victory over Blackpool. On February 7, 2015, he provided an assist for Kenwyne Jones to score the opening goal in a 1-1 draw against Sheffield Wednesday. However, Malone experienced several injuries as the 2014-15 season progressed. He concluded the latter half of the season with Cardiff City, having made 13 appearances.
In the 2015-16 season, Malone had a strong start, scoring an equalizer against Queens Park Rangers in a 2-2 draw on August 15, 2015. His performance, particularly his tireless running on the left flank, earned him the Man of the Match award from fans. This was followed by his second goal of the season in a 3-2 away victory over Bolton Wanderers on December 5. Malone established himself firmly in the left-back position, making 41 appearances and scoring twice. He missed five games during the season due to four appearances on the substitute bench and one absence due to illness.
With his contract nearing its end at the close of the 2015-16 season, Malone's future at Cardiff City became uncertain, especially with the appointment of new manager Paul Trollope.
