Ryu Won-woo's professional football career spans several notable clubs in South Korea, demonstrating his consistent development and contributions as a goalkeeper from his early career to his current role.
1.1. Jeonnam Dragons and Early Career
Ryu Won-woo began his youth career at the Gwangyang Jecheol High School Football Club, which serves as the youth team for Jeonnam Dragons. In 2009, he officially joined Jeonnam Dragons, marking his professional debut. His first professional appearance came in a League Cup match against Busan IPark in May 2011, where his team suffered a loss after he conceded one goal. Following this, he served as a backup goalkeeper for over a year.
His K League debut took place on June 17, 2012, in a match against Daejeon Citizen. In this game, Ryu Won-woo showcased his goalkeeping prowess by making nine effective saves, including a crucial penalty kick stop against Kevin Oris. His performance earned him his first-ever selection as the weekly MVP. For the remainder of that season, he took over the primary goalkeeping duties, replacing veteran player Lee Woon-jae. On February 2, 2014, Ryu Won-woo was loaned to Gwangju FC for a one-year period, alongside teammate Jeong Jun-yeon.
1.2. Bucheon FC 1995 Period
On March 19, 2015, Ryu Won-woo transferred to Bucheon FC 1995. During the middle of the 2015 season, he successfully competed for the starting goalkeeper position, establishing himself as a key player for the team. His significant contributions continued into the 2016 season, where he made 40 league appearances. His consistent performance played a crucial role in helping Bucheon FC advance to the K League 2 playoffs.
1.3. Pohang Steelers and Social Service
Ryu Won-woo's career progressed with a transfer to Pohang Steelers on January 4, 2018. Before the start of the 2020 season, he was loaned to Paju Citizen Football Club, a team in the K4 League, to fulfill his mandatory social service. After completing his service, he returned to Pohang Steelers in March 2022.
1.4. Recent Career
Ahead of the 2023 season, Ryu Won-woo joined Chungbuk Cheongju FC. Following his stint there, he made another move and is currently playing for Gyeongnam FC.
