Ryan Miller (baseball)

2.1. Arizona Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Miller in the sixth round of the 2018 Major League Baseball draft, as the 189th overall pick. He made his professional debut with the rookie-level Hillsboro Hops, where he appeared in 12 games and recorded a 3.86 ERA. In 2019, Miller played for the Single-A Kane County Cougars, logging a 4-6 win-loss record and a 3.62 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 27 appearances out of the bullpen. The COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of the 2020 minor league season, preventing Miller from playing in any games. He was subsequently released by the Diamondbacks organization on May 28, 2020.

2.2. Independent Leagues

On January 19, 2021, Miller signed with the Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League. In 25 appearances for the Miners, he posted a 1-1 record with a 2.89 ERA, 38 strikeouts, and 6 saves over 38 innings pitched. Miller became a free agent on October 6, 2021, following the folding of the Miners. On February 17, 2022, he signed with the Sioux Falls Canaries of the American Association of Professional Baseball. He made one relief appearance for the Canaries, pitching 1 and 1/3 scoreless innings, securing three strikeouts and a save.

2.3. New York Yankees

On May 19, 2022, the New York Yankees organization purchased Miller's contract. He was assigned to the High-A Hudson Valley Renegades, where he made 25 appearances. For the Renegades, Miller recorded a 2-3 record and a 5.75 ERA with 50 strikeouts across 36 innings.

2.5. Los Angeles Angels

On December 6, 2023, the Los Angeles Angels selected Ryan Miller in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft. In 2024, he made 34 appearances for the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees, where he posted a strong 5-1 record with a 2.45 ERA and 61 strikeouts over 62 and 1/3 innings. This performance led to his selection to the 40-man roster and promotion to Major League Baseball for the first time on August 27, 2024. He made his MLB debut on the same day against the Detroit Tigers, pitching a scoreless relief inning. Miller became the fifth alumnus of the Sioux Falls Canaries to reach MLB. Coincidentally, the only other former Canary in MLB at the time, John Brebbia, was designated for assignment on the very same day. During his rookie campaign, Miller appeared in 13 games, logging a 4.15 ERA with 11 strikeouts over 13 innings pitched. On November 7, he was designated for assignment by the Angels to make room on the 40-man roster for Kyle Hendricks. Miller was subsequently released by the team on November 12.
