1. Early life
1.1. Birth and childhood
Remko Pasveer was born on 8 November 1983, in Enschede, Netherlands. His early football journey began at his local club, SC Enschede.
2. Club career
Pasveer's professional career began at FC Twente before he moved to Heracles Almelo, then to PSV Eindhoven, SBV Vitesse, and eventually AFC Ajax, marking a progression through various Dutch clubs and roles.
2.1. FC Twente
Pasveer started his professional career at FC Twente, where he primarily served as a reserve goalkeeper from 2003 to 2006. During this period, he was the understudy to more established goalkeepers such as Cees Paauwe and Sander Boschker. He made a total of 14 appearances for the club in the Eredivisie during his time there.
2.2. Heracles Almelo
In the summer of 2006, Pasveer transferred to Heracles Almelo. Initially, he continued in a backup role, serving as the second-choice goalkeeper behind Martin Pieckenhagen. However, his tenure at Heracles Almelo marked a significant period of development for him.
2.2.1. Loan to Go Ahead Eagles
For the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons, Pasveer was sent on loan to Go Ahead Eagles, which at the time played in the Eerste Divisie, the second tier of Dutch football. Despite a challenging start to his loan spell, he steadily improved his performances and grew into a favored player among the fans in Deventer. He made 74 league appearances for Go Ahead Eagles during his loan, in addition to 4 appearances in the Eerste Divisie promotion play-offs.
Following his successful loan period, Pasveer returned to Heracles Almelo for the 2010-11 season, this time securing the position of starting goalkeeper. He maintained this role for four years, becoming a consistent presence for the club before deciding not to extend his contract in 2014. In total, he made 134 league appearances for Heracles Almelo, alongside 2 appearances in the Eredivisie European play-offs.
2.3. PSV Eindhoven

In the summer of 2014, Pasveer signed a three-year contract with PSV Eindhoven, where he was expected to compete for the starting goalkeeper position with Jeroen Zoet. His official debut for the Eindhoven-based club came on 21 August 2014, in the first leg of a 2014-15 UEFA Europa League qualifying match against Belarusian club Shakhtyor Soligorsk, which PSV won 1-0.
He made several appearances in the KNVB Cup and Europa League during his first season. A week after PSV secured the Eredivisie title, Pasveer made his league debut for the club in a match against Excelsior on 25 April 2015. In May 2015, PSV exercised an option in his contract, extending his commitment to the club until mid-2018. Pasveer contributed to PSV winning the national title for the second consecutive time on 8 May 2016. That season, PSV started the final matchday with the same points as rivals Ajax but a six-goal difference in their favor. PSV secured a 3-1 victory at PEC Zwolle, while Ajax drew 1-1 at De Graafschap, allowing PSV to clinch the title. Despite this, Pasveer did not make a league appearance in the 2015-16 season, only playing in the cup tournament.
Pasveer made his UEFA Champions League debut on 1 November 2016, stepping in for an injured Zoet in a 1-2 home loss to Bayern Munich in a group stage match. During the 2016-17 season, he made three league appearances. PSV finished third that season, with their defense, led by starter Zoet, statistically being among the best in the Eredivisie, conceding only 23 goals in 31 appearances.
2.4. SBV Vitesse
Pasveer transferred to Vitesse in July 2017. His debut for the club was on 5 August 2017, in a Johan Cruyff Shield match against Feyenoord, which Vitesse lost. His initial year under head coach Leonid Slutsky proved challenging, but he eventually established himself as the starting goalkeeper and was appointed team captain. His consistent performances led to him being voted "Player of the Year" by Vitesse fans for the 2019-20 season. He made 92 league appearances for Vitesse before his departure.
2.5. AFC Ajax

On 23 April 2021, it was announced that Pasveer had signed a two-year contract with Ajax, joining the club on a free transfer effective 1 July. He made his debut for Ajax on 7 August in a 4-0 loss to PSV in the Johan Cruyff Shield. Due to suspensions for André Onana and injuries to Maarten Stekelenburg, Pasveer became the starting goalkeeper for Ajax.
On 19 October 2021, Pasveer set a record as the first goalkeeper to stop three direct shots on goal from Norwegian striker Erling Haaland in a UEFA Champions League match, contributing to Ajax's 4-0 clean sheet victory against Borussia Dortmund. Four days later, he recorded another clean sheet in a league match as Ajax defeated his former club and rivals PSV Eindhoven 5-0 at home. By 7 November 2021, he had conceded only two goals in the domestic league after 12 matches, setting an Eredivisie record for the fewest goals conceded by a goalkeeper at that stage of the season. This translated to an impressive average of one goal conceded every four matches, both nationally and internationally. He was a key contributor to Ajax winning the Eredivisie title. However, with the arrival of Gerónimo Rulli from Villarreal CF in winter 2022, Pasveer became the backup goalkeeper.
During the 2024-25 Europa League qualifying phase, Pasveer made a remarkable save of five shots during a penalty shootout against Panathinaikos, securing a 13-12 victory after a 1-1 aggregate draw. As of February 2025, he has made 56 league appearances for Ajax.
3. International career
Pasveer has represented the Netherlands at both youth and senior levels, achieving success early in his career and making a notable senior debut.
3.1. Youth National Team
Pasveer was a member of the Netherlands squad that emerged victorious in the 2006 UEFA European Under-21 Championship held in Portugal. He made 5 appearances for the Netherlands U-21 team.
3.2. Senior National Team
On 22 September 2022, Pasveer made his debut for the senior Netherlands as a starter against Poland in a 2022-23 UEFA Nations League match. At 38 years old, he became the second oldest player to ever debut for the Dutch national team, only surpassed by Sander Boschker who debuted at 39 in 2010. Pasveer was subsequently included in the final 26-man Netherlands squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Despite his inclusion, he did not make an appearance in the tournament, as Andries Noppert was chosen as the starting goalkeeper for all matches. He has made 2 international appearances for the Netherlands.
