Peter Nogly was born on 14 January 1947, in Travemünde, a borough of Lübeck, in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.
2. Playing career
Nogly's playing career spanned several decades, during which he became a prominent figure in German football and later ventured into the North American professional league. His career is characterized by significant club achievements and a brief but notable international presence.
2.1. Club career
Nogly spent the majority of his club career with Hamburger SV, where he played all 320 of his matches in the Bundesliga, West Germany's top football league. He was a key part of the Hamburger SV team during a highly successful period for the club.
Following his extensive tenure in Germany, Nogly moved to the North American Soccer League (NASL). He played for two different NASL teams: the Edmonton Drillers and the Tampa Bay Rowdies. During his time in the NASL, he was recognized for his strong performances, earning a place on the NASL All-star second team in 1980. He subsequently achieved NASL All-star first team selections in both the 1981 and 1982 seasons, highlighting his consistent quality. One of his notable achievements in the NASL was scoring a goal in the finals of the 1983 NASL Grand Prix of Indoor Soccer, contributing to the Tampa Bay Rowdies' 5-4 victory in the championship match.
2.2. International career
Peter Nogly earned four caps for the West Germany national football team in 1977. Although his international playing appearances were limited, he was recognized for his potential and was included in the West German squad for UEFA Euro 1976. Despite being part of the squad that reached the final, Nogly did not make an appearance in the tournament itself.
3. Coaching career
After concluding his playing career, Peter Nogly transitioned into football management. He served as the manager for VfB Lübeck, a German football club, from 1986 to 1989.
