Born on December 2, 1988, Oliver Cooper grew up in Sylvania Township, Ohio, with his parents, Wendy and Mike, and his two older siblings, a brother named Jason and a sister named Nikki. He attended Sylvania Northview High School. At the age of 17, Cooper began performing stand-up comedy in Toledo, Ohio. Following his high school graduation, he enrolled at Arizona State University, but he chose to drop out after one year to pursue his acting aspirations in Los Angeles. Cooper is of Jewish heritage.

3.1. Early career and breakthrough

At the age of 20, Oliver Cooper was cast in one of the lead roles in the 2012 film Project X. He, alongside Thomas Mann and Jonathan Daniel Brown, were relatively unknown actors at the time of their casting in the film. While Mann had a previous role in the independent film It's Kind of a Funny Story, Cooper secured his audition through a friend, Shaun Weiss. His performance in Project X earned him two nominations for MTV Movie & TV Awards.

3.2. Notable roles and later career

Following his breakthrough, Cooper continued to appear in various films and television series. In 2013, he featured in the film Runner, Runner. He also took on recurring roles in television, including Levon in the comedy-drama series Californication and Wheeler in the Amazon series Red Oaks, a role he held from 2014 to 2017. In 2019, Cooper gained further critical attention for his portrayal of the serial killer David Berkowitz in the second season of the Netflix series Mindhunter.
