Born in Miryang, South Korea, Moon Sang-yun began his football journey at Milseong Elementary School and continued through Wonsam Middle School. During his second year at Shingal High School, he transferred to Incheon Daegun High School, which serves as the U-18 team for Incheon United. Upon graduating from high school, instead of immediately turning professional, Moon Sang-yun chose to advance his academic and athletic career at Ajou University. His time at Ajou University was marked by significant achievements; he played a pivotal role in leading the team to victory in the Spring 1st and 2nd Year National University Football Tournament, where his exceptional performance earned him the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. Despite being a first-year student, he quickly established himself as a key player, securing a spot within Ajou University's prominent "3-top" attacking formation and making substantial contributions to the team's success, including another victory in the National University Football Tournament.
2. Club Career
Moon Sang-yun's professional club career commenced in 2012 when he joined Incheon United through the 2012 K League Draft. He made his professional debut for Incheon United on March 11, 2012, in a home match against Suwon, which resulted in a 0-2 loss for Incheon. During his tenure from 2012 to 2014, he played in 86 matches and scored 7 goals for the club.
In 2015, Moon Sang-yun transferred to Jeonbuk Hyundai. However, his time at Jeonbuk was largely affected by injuries, which limited his opportunities to play. He managed to make 9 appearances, scoring 2 goals before the season concluded.
Following his single season with Jeonbuk Hyundai, Moon Sang-yun moved to Jeju United for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. At Jeju, he made 40 appearances and scored 4 goals, establishing himself as a consistent performer.
In February 2018, he transferred to Seongnam FC, a club competing in the K League 2. He remained with Seongnam FC for the 2018 and 2019 seasons, where he played 48 matches and contributed 5 goals.
From 2020 to 2021, Moon Sang-yun played for Seoul E-Land FC. He made 15 appearances during this period but did not score any goals. He departed the club at the end of the 2021 season following the expiration of his contract.

3. National Team Career

Moon Sang-yun has represented South Korea at various youth international levels. In 2011, he was called up to the South Korea U-20 team and participated in the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He played in 2 matches for the U-20 squad. Notably, he started in the Round of 16 match against Spain in the U-20 World Cup, where he delivered a strong performance.
Subsequently, he was briefly selected for the South Korea U-23 team between 2011 and 2014, making 10 appearances.
