Max Riemelt

2.1. Early Career

Riemelt began his acting career in Germany at the age of 13, making his debut in television productions such as Eine Familie zum Küssen in 1997 and Praxis Bülowbogen. The following year, he secured his first leading role in the ZDF Christmas series Zwei allein^German, where he played the orphan character "Max Loser." He also made a cameo appearance in the music video for the title song "Two of a Kind" by the Hamburg duo "R & B."

2.2. Major Works and Collaborations

Riemelt has established a strong collaborative relationship with director Dennis Gansel, starring in all of Gansel's feature films from Mädchen, Mädchen (2001) to The Fourth State (2012).

In 2013, he starred in the romance film Free Fall alongside Hanno Koffler. In the film, Riemelt portrayed Kay, a police officer in training, in a story depicting a gay love relationship that has drawn comparisons to Brokeback Mountain. The film was screened at the 23rd Tokyo International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival in Japan.

From 2015 to 2018, Riemelt gained international recognition for his role as Wolfgang Bogdanow, a German safe cracker, in The Wachowskis' Netflix series Sense8. The first season of the series received positive reviews from critics.

He further expanded his international presence by starring in the psychological thriller Berlin Syndrome alongside Australian actress Teresa Palmer. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2017, receiving generally favorable reviews, with both Palmer and Riemelt earning praise for their performances. In 2020, he joined the cast of The Matrix Resurrections, reuniting with Lana Wachowski, where he played the character Shepherd.
