1. Early Career and Background
Kim Jin-hwan was born on March 1, 1989, in South Korea. His foundational development in football began during his youth, culminating in his participation at the university level before he embarked on his professional career.
1.1. Youth Career
Kim Jin-hwan spent his formative years in football honing his skills at Kyunghee University. His performances at the university level led to his selection by Gangwon FC in the 2011 K-League draft, marking his entry into professional football.
2. Professional Player Career
Kim Jin-hwan's professional career as a defender spanned over a decade, during which he played for various clubs across the K League 1 and K League 2, contributing to their campaigns in both league and cup competitions.
2.1. Gangwon FC
Kim Jin-hwan made his professional debut for Gangwon FC after being drafted by the club in the 2011 K-League draft. His first professional appearance was in the 2011 K-League Cup, where Gangwon FC secured a decisive 5-0 victory over Gwangju FC in the first round match. In his debut season, he featured in 15 league matches for the club. He continued to play for Gangwon FC until the end of the 2013 season.
2.2. Incheon United
In 2014, Kim Jin-hwan transferred to Incheon United. He made his debut for the club as a starter in the opening match of the season against Sangju Sangmu FC on March 9. However, he subsequently faced challenges in securing a regular starting position and was at one point relegated to the reserve team mid-season. He eventually returned to the first team, making an appearance against Jeonnam Dragons on November 29, ending an eight-month absence from the pitch. The 2015 season saw a significant turnaround for Kim Jin-hwan under the new manager, Kim Do-hoon, who utilized him prominently. During this season, he played in 20 league matches and notably scored 3 goals, showcasing his offensive capabilities as a defender.
2.3. Gwangju FC (First spell)
In January 2016, Kim Jin-hwan moved to Gwangju FC. Despite the transfer, he found limited opportunities for playing time with the club. Consequently, in July of the same year, he was loaned out to FC Anyang.
2.4. FC Anyang (Loan)
Following his loan move from Gwangju FC in July 2016, Kim Jin-hwan joined FC Anyang for a temporary spell. He played 17 league matches for FC Anyang during the 2016 K League Challenge season.
2.5. Sangju Sangmu FC
Kim Jin-hwan later joined Sangju Sangmu FC, a military football club, where he fulfilled his mandatory military service while continuing his professional football career. He played for Sangju Sangmu FC during the 2017 and 2018 K League 1 seasons.
2.6. Gwangju FC (Second spell)
After his time with Sangju Sangmu FC, Kim Jin-hwan returned to Gwangju FC for a second spell, playing in the 2018 and 2019 K League 2 seasons. During his second stint, he contributed to the team's success, including their league title victory in 2019.
2.7. Seoul E-Land FC
Ahead of the 2020 season, Kim Jin-hwan signed with Seoul E-Land FC in the K League 2. He played for the club for three seasons, from 2020 to 2022. His final season as a professional player was the 2022 K League 2 season, after which he announced his retirement from playing.

4. Managerial Career
On December 20, 2022, Kim Jin-hwan officially announced his retirement from professional football as a player. Immediately following his retirement, he embarked on a new chapter in his career by transitioning into coaching. He was appointed as the manager of the U-12 youth team for Seoul E-Land FC, the last club he played for, thus beginning his journey as a football coach.
