Kim Dong-Ki began his professional club career by joining Gangwon FC after the 2012 K League draft. During the 2012 season, he made 7 appearances for the club. In the 2013 season, he scored his debut goal on August 18 in a match against Incheon United FC, though Gangwon FC ultimately lost the game 1-2. A significant highlight of his time at Gangwon FC occurred on November 30, 2013, when he netted a hat-trick against Jeju United in a K League match, leading his team to a decisive 3-0 victory.
On July 8, 2015, Kim Dong-Ki was loaned to FC Anyang for a six-month period. Following the conclusion of the 2015 season, he completed a permanent transfer to FC Anyang.
Before the start of the 2017 season, Kim Dong-Ki signed with Pohang Steelers. During his tenure there, he appeared in 5 matches and registered 1 assist. In the summer of 2017, due to an urgent need for a centre-back at Pohang Steelers following an injury to Kim Gwang-seok, the club agreed to a six-month loan swap deal.
