During his time there, he trained alongside notable wrestlers who would later achieve prominence, including CM Punk and Colt Cabana. Early in his career, Thomas faced several challenges due to an overactive thyroid, which caused setbacks in his development.
3. Early Independent Circuit Career
Following his training, Bradley Thomas embarked on his professional wrestling career in 1999, primarily working for various independent promotions across the American Midwest. His early independent circuit tenure lasted until 2005. Among these promotions, he was most notably active in IWA Mid-South, where he gained significant experience. During this period, he also held the IWA Mid-South Tag Team Championship twice, once with Ryan Boz and once with Tirk Davis. Additionally, he competed in Mid American Wrestling, where he secured the MAW Heavyweight Championship one time, and in Steel Domain Wrestling, where he won the SDW Heavyweight Championship once. His performances in these regional promotions eventually led to him signing a developmental contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
4. WWE Career
Bradley Thomas's tenure with World Wrestling Entertainment spanned from 2005 to 2009, during which he transitioned through various developmental territories before making a brief appearance on the main roster.
4.1. Developmental Territories (DSW, OVW, FCW)
Thomas first joined WWE's developmental system in November 2005, debuting in Deep South Wrestling (DSW) under the ring name "The Monster of the Midway" Bradley Jay. He debuted in OVW on May 16, 2007, under the new ring name "Jay Bradley," securing a victory over former OVW Heavyweight Champion Chet the Jett. On June 1, 2007, at OVW's inaugural Summer Sizzler Series event in Louisville, Kentucky, he won the vacant OVW Heavyweight Championship in a three-way match, defeating Paul Burchill and Idol Stevens. This victory made him the first wrestler to ever hold both the OVW and DSW Heavyweight titles. He successfully defended the OVW title against Idol Stevens on June 15, 2007, but eventually lost it to Paul Burchill in a match taped on June 27 and aired on June 30. Throughout this period, he also wrestled at Raw house shows, facing opponents like Jim Duggan, and competed in a dark match against D'Lo Brown before a SmackDown taping in August 2007. In December 2007, he won a "Love Thy Neighbor" four corners tag team match in OVW, earning a future OVW Heavyweight title shot. He then began a feud with Matt Sydal, defeating him in a tag team match alongside Mike Kruel. However, before he could exercise his title opportunity, WWE ended its developmental affiliation with OVW in February 2008. Consequently, Thomas was transferred to Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) in March 2008, where he began wrestling under the name "Ryan Braddock" and occasionally teamed with Mike Mondo.
