Dane Scarlett

3.1. Tottenham Hotspur youth and early career

Scarlett joined the Tottenham Hotspur academy and was part of the club's Under-18s team during the 2019-20 season, though his season was cut short due to a knee injury. He gained initial experience with the first team in pre-season friendly matches in August 2020 before returning to the Under-18s for the start of the 2020-21 season.

During the 2020-21 season with the Under-18s, Scarlett displayed impressive form, scoring ten goals and providing three assists in just eight games. A notable performance included scoring four goals, three of which were headers, in a dominant 7-0 victory against Southampton's Under-18s on November 21, 2020. His strong performances led to his inclusion on the bench for a senior match.

On November 26, 2020, Scarlett made his senior debut for Tottenham, coming on as a substitute for Lucas Moura in a UEFA Europa League game against Ludogorets Razgrad. At 16 years and 247 days old, he became the youngest player to appear in a competitive senior first-team game for Tottenham, surpassing the previous record held by John Bostock. This record was later broken by Alfie Devine on January 10, 2021. In January 2021, Scarlett further demonstrated his goal-scoring prowess by netting five goals for the Under-18 team in a 6-2 FA Youth Cup win against Newport County.

He made his Premier League debut on February 7, 2021, appearing as a substitute in stoppage time against West Bromwich Albion. Tottenham manager José Mourinho publicly expressed confidence in Scarlett, stating, "I wanted to be the one to put him on in a Premier League match. Because I know that he will be somebody in a few years." On February 24, Scarlett became the youngest player since Kylian Mbappé to make an assist in the Europa League, setting up a goal for Carlos Vinicius in a 4-0 victory over Wolfsberger AC. On March 28, 2021, Scarlett officially signed his first professional contract with Tottenham Hotspur, marking a significant milestone in his emerging career.

Scarlett made his first senior start for Tottenham on August 19, 2021, in the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League competition against F.C. Paços de Ferreira, which resulted in a 1-0 defeat for Tottenham. Following the conclusion of the 2021-22 season, Scarlett signed a new contract with Tottenham, extending his commitment to the club until 2026.

3.2. Loan spells

To further his development and provide consistent senior team playing time, Scarlett has embarked on several loan spells at other clubs.

3.3. Return to Tottenham Hotspur

Following his loan spell at Ipswich Town, Scarlett returned to the Tottenham squad and was included in their FA Cup third-round game against Burnley in January 2024, coming on as an 83rd-minute substitute for Richarlison in a 1-0 victory.

After his loan at Oxford United was terminated, Scarlett scored his first senior goal for Tottenham Hotspur on January 30, 2025, heading in the opening goal of a 3-0 win against IF Elfsborg in the final match of the UEFA Europa League league phase.

4.1. Youth international teams

Scarlett made his debut for the England national under-16 football team in August 2019, scoring both goals in a 2-0 victory against Denmark in his sole appearance for the squad.

On September 2, 2021, he made his debut for the England U19s, scoring a goal during a 2-0 win over Italy at St. George's Park. Overall, he has accumulated 14 appearances and 12 goals for the U19 team.

He made his England U20 debut as a substitute on September 21, 2022, in a 3-0 victory against Chile at the Pinatar Arena. He has made 18 appearances for the U20s, scoring 8 goals.

Scarlett earned his first cap for the England U21s on September 11, 2023, coming on as a substitute during a 3-0 away win against Luxembourg in a 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualification match. He has one appearance for the U21 team with no goals.

4.2. Major tournaments

Scarlett's international youth career includes participation in significant tournaments, contributing to England's successes.

He was included in the England U19 squad for the 2022 UEFA European Under-19 Championship on June 17, 2022. During the tournament, he scored two goals in a group stage match against Serbia. Scarlett started in the final, where England triumphed 3-1 after extra time against Israel on July 1, 2022, securing the championship title.

On May 10, 2023, Scarlett was named in the England squad for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He scored the winning goal in England's opening group game against Tunisia. He also featured in their Round of 16 match, which saw England eliminated by Italy.
