1. Early life
Anna Camp was born on September 27, 1982, in Aiken, South Carolina. She is the daughter of Dee Camp (née Kornegay), a dedicated Democratic Party volunteer, and Thomas Sewell Camp, a bank executive. She has an older sister named Saluda.
1.1. Childhood and Education
Camp grew up in Columbia, South Carolina. Her introduction to acting came early, during her second grade at Meadowfield Elementary School, when she was cast in a Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) production. This early experience sparked her interest in performing. Following high school, she pursued formal theatrical training, graduating from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2004. Shortly after completing her studies, Camp relocated to New York City to begin her professional acting career. She is of British descent, including English, Scottish, and Welsh ancestry, with smaller amounts of Dutch, French, and Swedish heritage.

2.1. Theatre
Camp began her professional career in theatre, making significant contributions to both Off-Broadway and Broadway productions. In 2005, she played the role of Perfect in columbinus. Her performance in the 2007 Off-Broadway play The Scene earned her a nomination for a Lucille Lortel Award.
In 2008, Camp made her Broadway debut in a production of The Country Girl. That same year, she took on the role of Jill Mason in the Broadway revival of Peter Shaffer's acclaimed play Equus, staged at the Broadhurst Theatre. In this production, she notably starred alongside Daniel Radcliffe, who played Alan Strang. Reflecting on the role, Camp acknowledged the challenges and high profile associated with it, particularly regarding the nudity involved. She stated, "I had a lot of thought; I didn't even know if I was going to do Equus because of the nudity and because of the high profile [aspect] of it. But you only live once and you have to take those risks because you'll only be a better person or actor because of it."
In 2011, Camp starred in the premiere of All New People, an Off-Broadway play written by Zach Braff and presented at Second Stage Theatre. The production was directed by Peter Dubois and featured a cast including Justin Bartha, David Wilson Barnes, and Krysten Ritter.
