He began playing with the Gulf Coast Dodgers in 2008. In 2009, he primarily played with the Arizona League Dodgers, and in 2010, he was assigned to the Great Lakes Loons. During his time with the Loons, he posted a record of 12 wins and 9 losses with an ERA of 2.88 over 26 appearances, of which 23 were starts, and he recorded 114 strikeouts.
In 2011, he started nine games for the A+ level Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, achieving a 5-2 record with a 2.33 ERA before earning a mid-season promotion to the Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts. 2.2. Boston Red Sox
On August 25, 2012, Webster was involved in a significant nine-player trade, moving to the Boston Red Sox along with infielder Iván DeJesús, Jr. and first baseman James Loney. This trade also involved two players to be named later, who were eventually identified as pitcher Rubby De La Rosa and outfielder/first baseman Jerry Sands. In exchange, the Los Angeles Dodgers received first baseman Adrián González, pitcher Josh Beckett, outfielder Carl Crawford, infielder Nick Punto, and 11.00 M USD.
Entering the 2013 season, Webster was highly regarded, ranked as the fourth-best prospect in the Red Sox minor league system and 71st on MLB.com's Top 100 Prospects list. The Red Sox added him to their 40-man roster and assigned him to the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox to begin the season.
He made his Major League Baseball debut on April 21, 2013, when the Red Sox called him up to start the second game of a doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals. Although he pitched 6 innings and allowed 3 runs (2 earned), he did not factor into the decision. Webster was optioned back to the minors the following day but was recalled on May 7 after reliever Joel Hanrahan went on the disabled list. He was optioned back to Pawtucket again on May 9 and then recalled on June 22. On July 4, in a start against the San Diego Padres, he pitched 6 innings, allowing 2 earned runs, and earned his first MLB victory. During the 2013 season, Webster made 8 appearances (7 starts) in the Majors, recording a 1-2 record with an 8.60 ERA. On March 7, 2014, the Red Sox agreed to a one-year contract with Webster. Following the season, on November 20, the Diamondbacks designated Webster for assignment.
2.4. Samsung Lions (KBO League)
On November 25, 2015, Webster was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for cash considerations. He was subsequently released by the Pirates on December 16. In 2016, he made 12 starts for the Lions, recording a 4-4 record, a 5.70 ERA, and 59 strikeouts. On June 5, during a game against the Hanwha Eagles, Webster suffered a calf injury. On November 17, 2016, the Texas Rangers signed Webster to a minor league contract, which included an invitation to their 2017 spring training camp. Webster re-signed with the Cubs on a new minor league contract on December 19, 2018 (announced on January 27, 2019). He started the 2019 season with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs. On April 6, he was added to the active roster to bolster the Cubs' bullpen. In his first relief appearance for the Cubs that day, the first batter he faced, Milwaukee's Ryan Braun, hit a three-run home run. On May 11, Webster was placed on the 10-day disabled list and was later moved to the 60-day list as a result of radial nerve inflammation. He began rehabilitation assignments with the rookie-level AZL Cubs on July 3, continuing with Double-A Tennessee on July 9.
